Vietnam Launches 2025 Military Training Exercises Under New Theme

The military focuses on readiness and modernization to meet upcoming challenges.

The military of Vietnam kicked off its training exercises for the year 2025 on March 3, under the theme "Rapid Response - Decisive Victory." This event served not only to bolster the readiness of military forces across various provinces but also to highlight their commitment to national defense strategies as the nation prepares to celebrate significant historical anniversaries.

Colonel Tran The Phan, Commanding Officer of the Provincial Military Command, addressed the attendees, which included multiple military officials and local government representatives, emphasizing the need for effective combat training following the guidelines set by the Ministry of Defense. Colonel Phan stated, "We aim to implement effective combat training as per Ministry of Defense guidelines," setting the tone for the ambitious training calendar ahead.

Designed to reinforce national security efforts, the training program was articulated through practical, hands-on exercises and operations. It aims not just to prepare for potential conflicts but to strengthen overall military proficiency. The exercises will occur over two phases: the first from March 3 to May 17, 2025, and the second from August 1 to December 15, 2025.

During the launch ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Dang Ngoc Hau, was also present, echoing the importance of integrating local contexts within military training. He noted, "It is important to consolidate our achievements and adapt training to local situations," highlighting the dual focus on teamwork and community engagement necessary for effective military operations.

The framework within which the military will operate involves thorough preparations and adherence to strict discipline. Colonel Nguyen Van Dat, the Political Chief of the Border Defense Force, elaborated on this by stating, "Discipline and coordination are key to our success this year," reinforcing the emphasis on maintaining order and cooperation among the troops.

To reach their goals, military leaders outlined expectations, insisting on comprehensive assessments of the training units. They projected ambitious targets for success—specifying, "100% of troops should reach training goals with 83% classified as good or excellent." Such high benchmarks are intended to motivate troops and demonstrate the military's rigorous standards.

Each division's training is aimed at fostering competency with modern weaponry, stressing the need for familiarity with both existing and new equipment. This focus ensures soldiers are well-prepared for any situation they might face.

One of the most significant aspects of these exercises is their historical backdrop. The 2025 training kickoff is strategically aligned with the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam on April 30, 1975, and the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth on May 19, 1890. By launching these military exercises during such important celebrations, the military also aims to pay homage to the legacy of national unity and strength.

Given the emphasis on innovation, each military command has been tasked with adapting its training approach to local contexts, ensuring the exercises remain relevant and effective. Leaders are collaborating closely with local defense units to not only prepare for potential threats but to maintain peace and security at home.

The exercises also encourage participation from various local governmental and community organizations, illustrating the integrated nature of Vietnam's national defense strategy. Engaging the community not only fortifies ties with the local populace but also ensures the military’s role is well understood and appreciated.

Across different provinces like Son La, Mộc Châu, and Quỳnh Nhai, units are engaging under the unified theme to stimulate high morale, dedication, and effectiveness among the troops. These regional exercises contribute to the overall national goals by fostering specialized skills relevant to distinct geopolitical terrains and civil-military cooperation.

The success of these training exercises will be measured not only by the outcomes of individual drills but also through the enhanced ability of the military to respond to crises and challenges on both national and local fronts. The military’s proactive approach aims to fortify Vietnam’s defense capabilities, ensuring the nation is prepared, vigilant, and united during these historically significant times.
