Vietnam Journalism Marks Century With Business Partnership

Celebrating 100 years, Vietnamese journalism deepens ties with enterprises, embracing digital transformation and fostering sustainable development across sectors

On June 21, 2025, Vietnam marked a significant milestone: the 100th anniversary of Revolutionary Journalism Day. This centenary not only celebrated a century of journalistic dedication but also highlighted the evolving dynamics between the press and business sectors in the country. At the heart of this transformation is the Financial - Investment Newspaper's publication, "Đầu tư," which has emerged as a vital bridge connecting enterprises and society.

Business leaders from various industries expressed deep appreciation for the role of journalism in amplifying their voices and fostering transparency. Mr. Đỗ Văn Vẻ, Chairman of the Thai Binh Provincial Business Association, emphasized that every step forward in the business arena requires multi-faceted support. "Báo chí, đặc biệt là ấn phẩm Đầu tư của Báo Tài chính - Đầu tư, là người bạn thân thiết, phản ánh kịp thời tiếng nói của doanh nghiệp và lan tỏa những giá trị tích cực," he said, underscoring journalism's pivotal role in echoing entrepreneurs’ aspirations and challenges, especially within the framework of Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private economic development.

Industrial real estate development also benefits from this media partnership. Mr. Bùi Thế Long, CEO of Green i-Park JSC, highlighted how the "Đầu tư" publication has been instrumental in promoting the Liên Hà Thái Industrial Park project. This pioneering industrial park in the Thai Binh Economic Zone not only focuses on infrastructure but also champions sustainable and modern industrial standards. The newspaper's in-depth coverage has effectively communicated the project's potential and values to both domestic and international business communities, serving as a "soft power" that harmonizes corporate and societal interests.

Credibility is another crucial asset that journalism provides to enterprises. Mr. Nguyễn Mai Tú, Chairman of The Gioi Dua Beverage Chain, reflected on the irreplaceable role of official journalism in building trust among partners, investors, staff, and customers. Despite the rise of new media platforms, he noted that traditional press remains the cornerstone for verified information and trust-building. The partnership with "Đầu tư" has elevated his company's brand and leadership reputation, demonstrating the intangible yet profound value of authentic media collaboration.

Infrastructure development, especially through public-private partnerships (PPP), has long faced skepticism in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyễn Quang Huy, General Director of Đèo Cả Group, praised the objective and timely reporting by "Đầu tư" and other media outlets for changing public perceptions about PPP and BOT investment models. This media engagement has contributed to refining legal frameworks and strengthening confidence in PPP as a viable infrastructure development approach. By transparently sharing project progress, quality, and challenges, journalism has helped align the interests of citizens, investors, and authorities, while also advocating solutions to regulatory and operational bottlenecks.

Sustainability and green development are themes increasingly emphasized by enterprises and media alike. Mr. Bùi Võ Công, Deputy General Director of Xuân Thiện Group, lauded "Đầu tư" for reflecting the spirit of green growth through coverage of key projects like Xuân Thiện Green Steel in Nghĩa Hưng and the lime and light powder factory in Hòa Bình. The newspaper not only serves as an official information channel but also as a trusted partner that helps elevate Vietnamese brands and foster market confidence in an innovative and dynamic economy.

However, enterprises also see room for growth in journalism’s role. Ms. Nguyễn Kim Thanh, General Director of Sa Ky Food JSC, called for a dedicated policy feedback section in the newspaper tailored by industry. She pointed out common challenges in the seafood export sector, such as traceability documentation and environmental standards for the EU market, which lack a centralized platform for discussion and resolution. Moreover, she urged deeper coverage on restructuring small and medium enterprises, focusing on operational management, cost control, and domestic supply chain development. She also advocated for more in-depth storytelling about entrepreneurs’ decision-making processes, crisis management, and lessons from failures, topics that resonate strongly with emerging business leaders.

Investment attraction into industrial zones is another area where journalism plays a strategic role. Mr. Đỗ Quang Tuấn, Deputy General Director of Bảo Minh Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment JSC, praised "Đầu tư" as a reliable communications partner for the Hải Long Industrial Park project in Tiền Hải district. This nearly 300-hectare green and modern industrial park focuses on sectors like electronics, mechanics, agricultural processing, and logistics. The publication’s efforts have enhanced the project’s visibility and credibility, drawing investor interest and supporting sustainable development.

Real estate development and community engagement also benefit from media collaboration. Mr. Nguyễn Trường Thăng, Deputy General Director of DragonGroup, expressed gratitude for "Đầu tư’s" role in disseminating the company’s positive values and connecting its diverse projects—from social housing to commercial services—with investors and society at large. This partnership has elevated brand reputation and fostered trust, crucial for sustained growth.

Green agriculture and digital transformation are emerging priorities. Ms. Đặng Thùy Linh, Chairwoman of APG Eco JSC, applauded the publication’s insightful coverage of green agriculture and OCOP-certified products. She expressed hope for more stories on traditional businesses transitioning to online models and called for expanded focus on women entrepreneurs, especially those leading small and medium enterprises in local communities, whose multifaceted contributions often go unrecognized.

Companies invested in sustainable production also look to journalism for support. Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thứ, Chairman of GC Food JSC, highlighted the importance of continued coverage on green production policies and transparent supply chains, especially as his company invests in organic raw materials and internationally certified factories. He proposed developing a podcast series titled "Voice of Business" to candidly share challenges, reforms, and innovations. Additionally, he recommended quarterly policy forums to connect managers, experts, and businesses in agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals for meaningful dialogue and policy contributions.

The wood and furniture sector, represented by Mr. Nguyễn Chánh Phương, Chairman of Danh Mộc Co., Ltd., underscored the necessity for official information channels that provide deep market analysis, niche product trends, and success stories. He stressed the media’s role in timely conveying government policies and business recommendations to regulators, helping to overcome industry hurdles. In an era dominated by unverified social media content, he emphasized the role of traditional journalism as a trustworthy source that clarifies facts and policies.

Similarly, Ms. Mai Đỗ Thùy Dung, Director of AKA Interior JSC, praised the newspaper’s timely and comprehensive economic coverage and suggested expanding industry-specific sections such as interior design, retail, manufacturing, and services. She also encouraged the creation of specialized forums for experience sharing and policy advocacy to promote sustainable sector development.

Tourism and service industries also benefit from media’s strategic role. Mr. Phạm Anh Vũ, Director of Viet Tourism Media JSC, valued "Đầu tư" as a trusted reference for business strategy and applauded its forums that foster effective networking among enterprises, experts, and policymakers. He sought more in-depth analyses of new policies like Resolutions 68 and 57, particularly their impacts on tourism and resort real estate, and encouraged modern content formats like podcasts and video analyses to enhance accessibility.

Mr. Bùi Thanh Tú, Marketing Director of BestPrice Travel Technology JSC, echoed these sentiments, urging continued focus on tourism sector trends, sustainable development, innovative business models, and communication strategies. Such content serves as inspiration for businesses to innovate and adapt amid intense competition.

While the centennial celebration honors a century of journalistic dedication, it also signals a new era where journalism and business are more intertwined than ever. The "Đầu tư" publication exemplifies the modern press’s role as an indispensable partner for enterprises—reflecting their voices, advocating transparency, and fostering sustainable growth. This collaboration is vital as Vietnam navigates the complexities of a dynamic economy, digital transformation, and global integration.

Simultaneously, the profession of journalism itself is undergoing a profound transformation. The rise of the "5-in-1 journalist" in the digital age illustrates this shift. Reporters now juggle writing, filming, editing, distributing, and data analysis, often single-handedly producing multimedia content on-site using cameras, microphones, and laptops. This multitasking approach is no longer exceptional but the new norm, enabling rapid, multi-platform dissemination of information.

At Thanh Hóa Newspaper and Radio-Television, reporters like Lê Hải and Việt Hương embody this evolution. Lê Hải describes carrying all necessary equipment to capture and upload news promptly, while Việt Hương creatively uses videos and legal diagrams to make complex issues accessible and engaging. Their work, alongside dozens of daily multimedia productions including podcasts and e-magazines, reflects an integrated newsroom adapting to the digital era.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief Hoàng Anh Tuấn highlights that digital transformation is imperative for media survival and competitiveness. Journalists are mastering photography, video production, graphic design, data exploitation, and audience engagement, shifting from traditional roles to multifaceted content creators. Yet, challenges remain: high workloads, time pressures, and the need for continuous skill development in video and post-production. Supportive editorial leadership, technical assistance, and strategic teamwork are essential to maintain quality and morale.

Moreover, the digital economy is reshaping journalism’s very foundation. Content production has moved from linear, one-way processes to dynamic, interactive ecosystems involving users, platforms, and algorithms. Digital metrics such as pageviews, time-on-page, bounce rates, and engagement now define success alongside content quality. Advanced tools like AI, big data, and cloud computing aid in information gathering, fact-checking, content creation, and real-time distribution.

Newsrooms are reorganizing into integrated, user-centric models, tailoring content for diverse audiences across multiple platforms. To compete with social media giants, journalism must enhance interactivity, trustworthiness, and service-oriented reporting. Journalists require new skills in SEO, data analysis, multi-platform storytelling, and community management, supported by policies fostering shared digital infrastructure, training, financial incentives, and fair legal frameworks.

As Vietnam’s journalism celebrates a century, it stands at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. The press remains a steadfast partner for businesses and society while embracing digital transformation to meet the demands of a rapidly changing media landscape. The journey ahead promises challenges but also unprecedented opportunities to strengthen the vital bond between information, trust, and progress.
