Vietnam is celebrating its youth as the nominations for the "Gương mặt trẻ Việt Nam tiêu biểu" (Outstanding Young Faces of Vietnam) award for 2024 hit the headlines. From 159 nominations spanning ten categories, the award committee narrowed it down to 19 exceptional young individuals who have made their mark through outstanding achievements.
The award aims to honor those under 35 years old who have distinguished themselves through academic excellence, scientific research, entrepreneurship, national defense, security, sports, and cultural and social contributions. Since its inception in 1996, the award has recognized nearly 560 inspiring young people, highlighting their significant contributions to society.
Among the standout nominees are Tiến Linh, representing the world of football, and Trịnh Thu Vinh, noted for her prowess in shooting. Their participation emphasizes the importance of sports in contemporary Vietnam, showcasing how young athletes inspire future generations.
The public voting process, which will take place from February 20 to March 6, 2024, on the award's official website, captures the excitement surrounding the event. Organizers also plan to engage with some nominees during this period to encourage participation.
Highlighting the scientific community's achievements, three exceptional young scientists have made the cut: TS Phạm Huy Hiệu, TS Nguyễn Viết Hương, and TS Lê Kim Hùng. Their groundbreaking research and innovations have not only advanced scientific knowledge but have also provided practical benefits to society.
TS Phạm Huy Hiệu, born in 1992, currently serves as a lecturer at the Institute of Engineering and Computer Science. He is deeply involved with the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center and has gained recognition for developing medical imaging software, VinDr, which is currently utilized by over 40 hospitals across Vietnam, handling 300,000 patient interactions monthly. His accolades include the "Golden Globe Science and Technology Award" of 2023, and he boasts over 70 published articles, including several in top-tier international journals.
Another promising nominee, TS Nguyễn Viết Hương, 33, is regarded as one of Vietnam's foremost researchers focusing on nano-thin films. His innovative work on Atmospheric Pressure Atomic Layer Deposition (SALD) technology allows for lower-cost production of nano-films without the need for vacuum chambers, proving highly beneficial for sectors like photovoltaics, sensors, and coatings.
Completing the trio is TS Lê Kim Hùng, whose expertise lies within the Internet of Things (IoT). After earning his doctorate at Sorbonne University, he returned to Vietnam to develop IoT sampling algorithms aimed at reducing energy consumption without compromising data quality. His patents and published work demonstrate significant contributions, particularly to smart agriculture and urban development.
The voting process not only aims to choose the final ten prize winners but also celebrates the aspirations and contributions of the nominees, demonstrating the intelligence and dedication of young Vietnamese. It creates excitement surrounding the upcoming selections and highlights the diverse talents represented.
The results of the voting will be revealed by the selection council following the online voting period, where ten exemplary young faces will be crowned as Vietnam's outstanding young representatives for 2024. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Hanoi during March.
This initiative fosters hope and ambition among Vietnam's youth, encouraging them to aspire for greatness. It also highlights the importance of recognizing contributions from various fields, promoting unity, and inspiring the next generation of leaders and innovators.
