Vibrant Festivals Showcase Vietnam's Rich Cultural Heritage

Vietnam is bursting with life and culture, especially during its various festivals and events, which not only bring communities together but also highlight the country's diverse heritage. The recent running event "Khám Phá Giữa Đại Ngàn" (Exploring the Jungle) held on February 26, 2025, at Na Hâu commune, Văn Yên district, is just one example of how sports and cultural events are intertwined to promote local tourism and celebrate traditional values.

The running competition attracted nearly 100 athletes, both men and women, from various localities across the country. The 8.1-kilometer race started from the peak of Ba Khuy, situated near the boundaries of Đại Sơn and Mỏ Vàng, and wound down to the stadium at Na Hâu commune.

This event not only tested the physical endurance of the athletes but also encouraged them to immerse themselves in the pristine nature of Văn Yên, promoting the area's stunning landscapes and diverse flora. The challenging terrain, with its steep slopes and winding paths through ancient forests, made for not only a test of stamina but also an exciting adventure.

Local residents fully participated by cheering on the runners and providing refreshments, creating an atmosphere of community spirit and joyful celebration. It was evident from the enthusiastic participation of the townspeople and visitors alike, the event served as much more than just a sporting challenge; it actively promoted cultural identity and tourism within Văn Yên.

"The event was well-organized, and the athletes showed incredible determination. More than just athletics, it promotes our culture and environment as well," remarked one local official.

At the conclusion of the race, the organizers presented prizes for the top finishing athletes. Lý A Tỉnh from Phong Dụ Thượng commune took home first place among the men, and Nguyễn Thị My from Yên Bình district bested the female competitors. Due to its success, the "Khám Phá Giữa Đại Ngàn" running event is slated to become an annual occurrence, providing unforgettable experiences for participants and promoting eco-tourism.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's cultural diversity shines brightly during traditional holidays, as seen with the Cham community's Tết Ramưwan. This festival exemplifies the rich cultural practices held dear by the Cham people, including ancestor worship rituals and prayers for prosperity. Held annually, Tết Ramưwan includes several significant rites such as the Tảo Mộ (grave cleaning ceremony). This ritual allows families to honor their ancestors and strengthen familial bonds.

During the Tết Ramưwan, Cham people partake in various traditional ceremonies, which include preparing festive dishes such as cơm (rice), cá khô (dried fish), bánh tét (sticky rice cake), and fruit offerings. Community leaders and distinguished religious figures officiate these ceremonies, entreating for blessings and fortune in the coming year.

Following Tết Ramưwan, the sacred month of Ramadan commences. Male Cham Bà Ni congregate at their local mosques for worship, participating actively in their faith through prayer, fasting, and community service. This creates not only intimacy among families but also enriches the social fabric of the Cham community.

To commemorate Tết Ramưwan 2025, local leaders from Ninh Thuận province have been visiting to extend festive greetings to the Cham elders and youth, ensuring safety and security measures are implemented to maintain peace during such celebrations.

According to local statistics, over 31,500 Cham people reside primarily within six communes across four districts of Ninh Thuận, showcasing the community's rich and enduring cultural presence marked by deep-rooted traditions.

Events like the "Khám Phá Giữa Đại Ngàn" running race and Tết Ramưwan highlight the significant role traditions play within communities, fostering unity and cultural pride among local citizens. They serve as timeless reminders of the importance of preserving cultural identity and promoting tourism, ensuring these vibrant aspects of Vietnamese life continue to attract both local and foreign visitors.

This flourishing culture invites everyone to partake and celebrate, making Vietnam's festivals not merely events, but shared experiences connecting generations and communities across the nation.
