On February 27, 2025, Vietnam commemorated the 70th Anniversary of Vietnamese National Doctors' Day, marking seven decades of dedication and service from the nation’s healthcare professionals. The celebrations were highlighted by visits from local officials to key health facilities, underscoring the government's appreciation for the contributions of health workers.
Vương Quốc Tuấn, the Chairman of the Bắc Ninh provincial people's committee, visited the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) to honor their hard work and dedication. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of health sector professionals, stating, "This is a significant occasion for all of us, reflecting our dedication and commitment to public health," as reported by Bắc Ninh Press.
The CDC, established to coordinate and implement disease control and health promotion activities, employs 187 staff across various departments. It has adapted its functions to include not just traditional healthcare responses but also vaccination programs, environmental health monitoring, and public health education.
Tuấn expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by healthcare workers, particularly noting their resilience during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. "The CDC has faced many struggles but has successfully provided extensive healthcare services, earning the admiration of the community," he remarked.
Later the same day, Lê Xuân Lợi, the Vice Chairman of the provincial people's committee, attended another celebration at Bệnh viện Quân y 110. This hospital, pivotal to military and public health efforts, has celebrated its own rich history alongside the national doctors' day. During the event, Lợi honored both past and present contributions of the military medical staff.
"We are firmly committed to improving our healthcare services and our facilities," Lợi highlighted, recognizing the adaptive changes the military hospital has pursued, including modernizing its infrastructure and adopting advanced medical technologies.
Military physicians at Bệnh viện Quân y 110 have demonstrated exceptional dedication and innovation, equipping the hospital with the ability to perform complex procedures and establish specialized care units, including those for vascular interventions and oncological treatments.
During the ceremony, Đại tá Trần Huy Tưởng, Cục Trưởng Cục Hậu cần – Kỹ thuật, praised the hospital's achievements, saying, "Over 70 years, we have faced and overcome many challenges, and we remain steadfast in our mission," as he reflected on the hospital's evolution and contributions to healthcare, especially to soldiers and local civilians.
The hospital’s commitment extends beyond its walls; it annually allocates resources for outreach programs to provide free medical services to needy communities, reflecting the strong ties between military and civilian healthcare efforts.
Continuing with the celebrations, both facilities recognized healthcare professionals who have shown exemplary service with awards, including “Thầy thuốc ưu tú” (Distinguished Physician) titles being bestowed on noteworthy individuals. Such recognitions not only celebrate personal achievements but also inspire younger generations of healthcare workers across the province.
Vương Quốc Tuấn reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing public health through continual support for healthcare professionals, stating, "With the love and trust of the Party, local government, and people, we will continually strive for excellence, aiming to uplift Bắc Ninh toward becoming a central city. The hope is to see our healthcare services reflect the highest standards possible, backed by well-trained professionals."
Through both events, the significance of National Doctors' Day was emphasized not just as a day for recognition but as a reminder of the collective effort and dedication required to advance the health and wellbeing of the nation. The commitment displayed by all forms of healthcare workers—military and civilian—underscores the importance of unity and collaboration as they navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by modern healthcare demands.
The 70th celebration of Vietnamese National Doctors' Day closed with leaders stating their aspirations for the future, reflecting on both the struggles and triumphs of the healthcare system. With a solid foundation and enduring commitment to health equity, the future of Vietnam’s healthcare system looks promising as it continues to serve its people.
