Vietnam And Japan Unite For Vietnamese Language Education

Cooperation agreement signed to boost Vietnamese language teaching and cultural exchanges

On February 25, at Hanoi, the International Education and Training Institute (part of the Hanoi National University of Education) celebrated the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Studies Center at Osaka University, Japan. This collaboration primarily aims to promote the study and teaching of the Vietnamese language and to conduct Vietnamese language proficiency assessments for foreigners residing or studying in Japan.

The agreement was signed following detailed discussions to understand the capacities and needs of each institution involved. “The cooperation agreement was signed after both sides worked very closely to understand each other's capacities and needs,” said Ms. Le Thuong, the Director of the Vietnam Studies Center at Osaka University, during the signing ceremony.

Ms. Le Thuong’s remarks highlight the collaborative spirit between the two institutions, marking what she termed “the beginning of new cooperation between the two units.” She emphasized the importance of mutual support to promote the Vietnamese language and culture through various educational projects.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two institutions will work together to organize scientific workshops focused on the teaching and research of the Vietnamese language and culture for foreigners. These workshops will be organized according to international scientific conference regulations, depending on whether they take place in Vietnam or Japan. The two parties will also assist each other with student internships and practicums based on the respective capabilities and regulations governing international educational cooperation.

This partnership has broader aspirations. The Vietnam Studies Center at Osaka University officially launched on October 17, 2024, with the goal of enriching knowledge about Vietnam through educational initiatives, research, and cultural exchanges. It aims not only to promote language learning but also to facilitate a greater intellectual and cultural connection between Vietnam and Japan.

Meanwhile, the International Education and Training Institute plays a pivotal role by providing academic support for the Japan center. This includes organizing Vietnamese language proficiency assessments aligned with international standards for foreign learners. These assessments are expected to contribute significantly to the increasing interest among foreigners wishing to learn Vietnamese.

According to Professor Dr. Le Huy Bac, the Director of the International Education and Training Institute, “This signing marks the beginning of new cooperation between the two units.” He pointed out the significance of enhancing the quality of Vietnamese language education abroad.

To support the quality of Vietnamese language instruction at the Vietnamese Language School Cây Tre, the institute will provide educational materials and expert consultations. This will adhere to regulations governing online education and labor conditions between Japan and Vietnam.

The partnership not only focuses on language but also emphasizes cultural aspects, aiming to strengthen friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan through shared academic endeavors. By fostering educational exchanges and collaboration, both institutions hope to create opportunities for enhanced mutual awareness and respect between the peoples of the two countries.

The deal reflects a commitment to mutual growth and exchange, transcending merely educational efforts to forge enduring relationships built on cultural appreciation and academic partnership.
