The recent efforts to support Vietnamese businesses, particularly through special economic policies and gender equality initiatives, were highlighted during two pivotal events on December 18, 2024. One was held in Hai Phong, where officials discussed new mechanisms for economic development, and the other was a dialogue session aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs in Ben Tre province.
During the meeting with the National Assembly's leaders, Trần Thanh Mẫn, the Chairman of the National Assembly, emphasized the importance of establishing special policies to promote economic growth in Hai Phong. Lê Tiến Châu, Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, expressed the city's urgent need for unique development mechanisms, remarking, "Hải Phòng rất cần các cơ chế chính sách đặc thù, vượt trội, để Hải Phòng phát triển với tốc độ cao hơn trong những năm tới..." ("Hai Phong greatly needs specific and superior policies to develop at a faster pace in the coming years...").
The discussions aimed to review the progress of Resolution 35, which outlines special policies for Hai Phong, and suggested replacing it with new resolutions by February 2025. The city is aiming for significant developments, aspiring to become one of Asia’s leading cities by 2045.
On the same day, the Women's Union of Ben Tre organized a dialogue focused on the promotion of female-led enterprises and collective economic growth. This session provided valuable insights as about 20 female entrepreneurs voiced their thoughts, presenting both the opportunities and challenges they face. Issues raised included the need for greater support for women taking the initiative, access to credit, and market expansion opportunities.
Nguyễn Thị Kim Thoa, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Ben Tre, highlighted the remarkable achievements gained through various initiatives aimed at empowering women. She mentioned, "Chúng tôi đã đạt được kết quả đáng khích lệ, thúc đẩy sự phát triển của doanh nghiệp, hợp tác xã do phụ nữ làm chủ..." ("We have achieved encouraging results, promoting the development of enterprises and cooperatives led by women...").
This dialogue aimed to identify pathways to overcome obstacles faced by women entrepreneurs, enhancing the sustainability and scalability of their businesses, especially those unique to the region like coconut and grapefruit specialties from Ben Tre.
Both events clearly symbolize Vietnam's commitment to fostering economic growth through inclusive policies. The Hai Phong meeting not only seeks to solidify economic strategies but also to leverage local strengths and potentials. Meanwhile, the Ben Tre dialogue is pivotal for empowering women, fortifying their leadership roles, and propelling their contributions to the local economy.
From special resolutions supporting city development to focused discussions championing women's entrepreneurship, the Vietnamese government demonstrates its proactive approach to economic growth. These initiatives not only nurture businesses but also uplift communities, ensuring resilience and sustainability for years to come.
Vietnam stands poised at the edge of significant economic development, driven by the synergy of policy support and grassroots initiatives shaping the business environment. By embracing gender equality and offering targeted support, the path toward prosperity can be paved, encouraging not only local businesses but entire regions to thrive.
