Veteran Yuichiro Ueno Leads At 2025 Ekiden Championships

The 2025 All Japan Prefectural Collegiate Ekiden Championships took place on January 19, 2025, at Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park, bringing together top runners from universities and society for this prestigious relay race.

The competition, consisting of seven stages covering 48 kilometers, featured notable performances, particularly during the third stage where runners competed over 8.5 kilometers. Attention was drawn to Yuichiro Ueno from Saga, who, at the age of 39 years and 5 months, was the oldest participant. Ueno made headlines with his impressive run, overtaking seven competitors after receiving the tasuki (sash) and pushing his team from 11th place to 4th.
