Shimo-ku Ato Musan, beloved actor and voice actor, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 78, his agency announced on February 13. Musan was suffering from acute subdural hematoma, diagnosed in September 2023, leading to his gradual decline before his health drastically worsened and he passed away at a Tokyo hospital.

Born on November 26, 1946, in Tokyo, Ato Musan was known for his extensive work across film, television, and voice acting. His parents, both renowned figures in the acting world—father Shimo-jo Masami, who was famously known for his role as 'Oichan' in the popular "Otoko wa Tsurai yo" film series, and mother Tanoue Yoshiko, also established as an actress. Growing up in such an influential family set Ato Musan on the path to follow his father's legacy.

His first major break came with the NHK serial drama "Nobuko to Obaachan" which aired during the 1969 season.
