With the arrival of the New Year, property tax collections have commenced across the 212 municipalities of Veracruz. Starting Thursday, January 2, 2025, the collection of the property tax, known locally as "predial," began, following the recent updates to the property value tables submitted for approval by various municipal administrations. These adjustments will significantly influence property tax payments for local citizens.
Several municipalities, led by their respective mayors, have introduced new cadastral value tables for 2025. These include Atoyac, with Carlos Alberto Ventura de la Paz at the helm; Citlaltépetl, governed by Cirilo Doroteo Esteban; Chinameca, under the administration of Ramiro Alemán Valencia; Fortín, managed by Gerardo Rosales Victoria; and Ignacio de la Llave, led by Andrés Chacón Hernández. Ixhuacán de los Reyes, with Fortunato Ruiz Vargas from the PRI party, and Minatitlán, overseen by Carmen Medel Palma, along with Perote led by Delfino Ortega Martínez (also from PRI) have also updated their tax valuations.
Some municipalities, like Playa Vicente and Tierra Blanca, with Álvaro Gómez Flores, have either adjusted their tax arrangements or kept the previous year's tariff intact. Notably, other municipalities chose not to present any proposals for updating the unit values of land and constructions, leaving the 2024 rates unchanged for the coming year.
On the first day of tax collection, it was also announced by municipal officials the availability of considerable discounts to help ease the burden on certain vulnerable groups. Seniors, retirees, pensioners, single mothers, and indirect victims of enforced disappearance are eligible for a 50% discount on their property taxes, provided they have registered on the municipal registry. Residents paying their taxes during the entire month of January can also avail themselves of a 20% discount.
Those who owe property taxes from previous years are encouraged to visit the municipal execution office to arrange payment plans and bring their accounts up to date. To facilitate payments, municipalities have set up online options where residents can remit their taxes digitally. A helpful portal is available at tesoreriavirtual.veracruzmunicipio.gob.mx for easy navigation and transactions.
There are also physical payment modules set up across the municipalities for those who prefer face-to-face transactions. These modules not only simplify the process but also provide opportunities for residents to ask questions and seek assistance with their tax issues directly from municipal staff.
The steps taken this January are expected to streamline tax collection efforts for the municipalities of Veracruz, ensuring effective revenue generation for local governments, which rely heavily on property taxes to fund public services and infrastructure projects throughout the region.
Municipal officials urge residents to stay informed about their tax obligations and highlights the importance of timely payments to avoid additional charges or penalties.
