Veneto Braces For Unstable Weather As Storms Approach

Residents prepare for thunderstorms and heavy rain ahead of April 25 holiday

The Veneto region is bracing for a wave of unstable weather as a series of fronts from Northern Europe are set to impact the area starting Wednesday, April 23, 2025. This shift in weather patterns is expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and a drop in temperatures, particularly affecting the central-western areas of the Prealps and plains.

According to a report published on April 23 by 3bmeteo.com, instability has already begun to affect mountainous regions and adjacent plains. The forecast indicates that conditions will intensify, especially on the night of Thursday, April 24, when thunderstorms are likely to become more pronounced, particularly in the plains.

On Thursday, April 24, scattered clouds are anticipated throughout the Veneto territory, with temperatures in the plains ranging from a minimum of 12 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 22 degrees Celsius. In Padua, for instance, temperatures are expected to fluctuate between 13°C and 21°C, with winds coming from the North-East at 6 km/h and gusts reaching up to 13 km/h.

In Belluno, the weather will be marked by rain intermixed with clear spells, with temperatures between 12°C and 19°C. Winds will also blow from the North-East at a similar intensity. Meanwhile, Verona is set to experience scarce cloudiness with temperatures ranging from 14°C to 21°C.

As the unstable weather continues into Friday, April 25, light rain is expected to persist in various areas, including Belluno and Treviso, where temperatures will range from 10°C to 18°C. The winds will shift slightly, with an increase in intensity, particularly in Venice, where gusts could reach up to 27 km/h.

In response to the anticipated weather conditions, the Decentralized Functional Center of the Civil Protection in Veneto has issued an orange alert for hydraulic criticality in the Po basin, particularly along the stretch that includes the Fissero-Tartaro-CanalBianco and Lower Adige basins. This alert will be in effect from 2 PM on April 23 until 4 PM on April 24. The region is currently experiencing a flood event in the Po river, prompting this precautionary measure.

Additionally, a yellow alert has been declared for the Upper Brenta-Bacchiglione-Alpone and Lower Brenta-Bacchiglione basins, particularly concerning the Muson dei Sassi river. This alert is due to the potential for localized heavy showers and thunderstorms that could lead to hydrogeological issues in various mountain and foothill areas.

Moving into the weekend, forecasts suggest a temporary strengthening of high pressure, which may bring more stable and sunny conditions on Saturday, April 26. However, slight afternoon variability is still expected in the Alps and neighboring areas. Sunday, April 27, is also predicted to remain relatively stable, though some daytime variability may affect the Alpine range.

As the region prepares for these weather changes, residents are advised to stay informed about the evolving conditions and heed any official warnings. The Civil Protection agency emphasizes the importance of being cautious, especially in areas prone to flooding and severe weather.

In summary, the Veneto region is on alert as it faces a series of unstable weather patterns that could lead to significant rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days. With temperatures expected to drop and conditions remaining unpredictable, residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions and remain updated on weather developments.
