Valencia Braces For Rain After Calm Weather

A shift to wet conditions is set to arrive just as Fallas festival activities begin.

The weather forecast for Valencia indicates significant changes coming up, with cloudy skies and the potential for rain, marking the end of dry days. According to the Agency Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), the transition from stable to rainy weather will begin on Friday, February 28, 2025.

On Thursday, February 27, the weather across Valencia is expected to be stable, with high clouds appearing early on and clearing up by midday. Forecasted temperatures reveal highs of around 17 degrees Celsius and lows of 9 degrees. The wind will be light and predominantly easterly.

“El tiempo de este jueves en Valencia vendrá marcado por un panorama con nubes altas desde primera hora del día y será con pocas nubes a partir de mitad del día, de acuerdo a las previsiones de la Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET),” states the meteorological report.

Looking to Friday, forecasts indicate the start of noticeable weather changes, with the first signs of instability expected as the day progresses. AEMET has predicted light, intermittent rains during the afternoon, along with minor temperature fluctuations — highs dropping to 16 degrees and lows hovering around 8 degrees.

“Los modelos meteorológicos ya anticipan modificaciones a partir del viernes 28, justo en la recta final de febrero y coincidiendo con el arranque de las mascletàs de las Fallas 2025,” the report noted, underscoring the timing of the weather shift against the backdrop of one of Valencia’s most celebrated festivals.

This week has been relatively calm, perfect for outdoor activities as the weather remained stable, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the last sunny days before the rain arrives. The shift will affect various sectors, including tourism and agriculture, making accurate weather forecasting especially important during this time.

Residents of nearby municipalities, such as Gandia and Castellón de la Plana, can also expect similar weather patterns — with variable skies and maximum temperatures ranging from 14 to 17 degrees throughout the weekend. Forecasts are indicating minimum temperatures falling to around 8-9 degrees.

With the Fallas celebration on the horizon, many are monitoring the sky closely, hoping for cooperation from the weather gods to keep the festivities alive with as little disruption as possible. The heightened anticipation and potential changes could mean additional rain events, impacting plans and schedules as events progress.

Valencia’s Mediterranean climate offers mild winters and warm summers, but the upcoming changes represent the typical season shift associated with late February and early March, when the region starts to experience more rain and cooler conditions.

Tourists and locals alike are encouraged to stay updated with AEMET's reports, as the weather pattern continues to evolve. Accurate information is key, especially for those planning to attend the famed mascletàs, which are pyrotechnic displays held during Fallas, kicking off on the first days of March.

The anticipation for the celebrations is palpable, but with it also come concerns about potential rain interrupting outdoor activities. The weather forecasts will play a pivotal role as the community gears up for what is one of Valencia's most colorful and vibrant festivals of the year.
