UTBK 2025 Kicks Off With Record Participation Across Indonesia

Universities prepare for increased competition as thousands of students take the national exam for higher education.

The Ujian Tulis Berbasis Komputer (UTBK) Seleksi Nasional Berbasis Tes (SNBT) 2025 officially commenced on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, marking a significant step for thousands of Indonesian students aspiring to enter higher education. The exam, which will run until Sunday, May 4, 2025, is a crucial gateway for prospective university students across the nation.

At the Universitas Jambi (UNJA), the first day of the examination was closely monitored by university officials, including the Rector of UNJA, Prof. Dr. Helmi, S.H., M.H. He was joined by various vice rectors and administrative staff who ensured that the examination was conducted smoothly across two main campuses: Mendalo and Telanai.

The UTBK is structured to take place in two sessions each day, with the morning session starting early and the afternoon session continuing into the evening. This year, UNJA reported an impressive increase in participation, with 10,610 candidates registered for the UTBK/SNBT exam, up from 9,412 participants the previous year. This surge reflects the growing interest in higher education among Indonesian youth.

UNJA has allocated 3,650 spots across 66 study programs at various educational levels, including S1, D3, and D4. Rector Helmi emphasized the university's preparedness for the exam, stating, "We are very ready in terms of budget, facilities, and local and national committees. The new Hexagonal Building, supported by ADB, is also ready to be used for the new students' classes in their first and second semesters."

He further encouraged prospective students to take the selection process seriously, expressing hope that the new Hexagonal Building would serve as a hub for students from diverse backgrounds and programs. "We open up opportunities for students who are truly eager to study at UNJA. Please compete well, and I hope you succeed in your first choice," he added.

Meanwhile, at the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur, the UTBK also kicked off with high enthusiasm among participants. On the same day, 1,159 candidates, including 581 in the morning session and 588 in the afternoon session, gathered at the campus, eager to take the exam that could pave their way to higher education.

Participants from various regions in East Java arrived early, with some traveling long distances. One candidate, Beno, 18, shared his experience: "We left from Madura at midnight. Even though we are tired, it’s all worth it once we arrive at this campus. I hope the results are satisfying."

Prof. Euis Nurul Hidayah, MT., Ph.D., the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, highlighted the university's comprehensive preparations for the UTBK. She noted a nearly 20 percent increase in participants compared to the previous year, indicating growing confidence in UPN “Veteran” as a comfortable and professional center for the UTBK.

Interestingly, one of the examination venues was the newly established Faculty of Medicine laboratory, aimed at introducing the faculty to the wider community. The examination proceeded in an orderly fashion, with strict supervision and seating arrangements designed to prevent cheating and ensure the integrity of the process.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Akhmad Fauzi, M.MT., the Rector of UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur, took the opportunity to motivate the candidates. He urged them to maintain calm, focus, and confidence during the examination. "I invite all prospective students not to feel nervous and to stay focused while answering the UTBK questions. Prepare yourselves as best as you can and make the most of this opportunity as a first step towards a bright future. I hope all participants achieve maximum results and are accepted into their desired study programs," he said.

With a spirit of readiness and enthusiasm from all parties involved, both UNJA and UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur are optimistic that the UTBK 2025 will run smoothly and serve as a successful launchpad for Indonesia's youth. The commitment of these institutions to providing quality education and a supportive environment for examination underscores the importance of this pivotal moment for students across the nation.

As the UTBK continues over the next few weeks, it will not only shape the future of thousands of students but also reflect the ongoing evolution of Indonesia's educational landscape. With each candidate striving for success, the hope is that this year's examination will yield a new generation of skilled professionals ready to contribute to the nation's development.
