USM Football is celebrating a successful weekend, marked by outstanding performances across their teams, culminating in the Seniors claiming the top spot of their division with a resounding 9-1 victory.
The weekend kicked off with the Arize-Lèze (FAL) football school's lottery event, which saw impressive attendance on Friday evening at Sabarat. This community gathering was the perfect prelude to the exhilarating matchups scheduled for Saturday.
On March 8, the U15 Women’s team stole the show with a staggering 12-1 win over Girou OFC. Concurrently, other youth teams showcased their strengths: the U17s notched up a 4-2 win against Girou, and the U14s secured a 3-0 victory at Lafitte-Vigordane, highlighted by brilliant performances from Enzo, who scored twice, and Samuel, who added another.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. The USM Seniors faced off against formidable rivals, knowing the stakes were high with first place on the line. The match ignited with intensity from the outset. Axel Lemoyne opened the scoring just two minutes in, finding the back of the net thanks to Hugo Chauvet's precision pass, putting USM up 1-0.
Ten minutes later, the opposition equalized following a well-placed shot off the crossbar, making it 1-1. But USM wasn’t discouraged. At the 20-minute mark, Laurent Lac restored the lead, deftly converting Hugo’s assist to put the team back on top at 2-1.
The match continued to see USM dominate, with Guillaume Pujol extending the lead to 3-1 just minutes after Laurent's goal, showcasing the team's attacking prowess. After halftime, Laurent struck again to bring the score to 4-1, solidifying USM’s grip on the game. Hugo, already instrumental with three assists, capped off his performance with a goal of his own at the hour mark, pushing the lead to 5-1.
Then, David added to the tally with a spectacular strike from outside the box at the 70-minute mark, making it 6-1. The relentless USM attack continued as Mathéo Martinez notched his first goal for the club, followed by Léo Darrieu finding the net to increase the score to 8-1.
Finally, Laurent completed the rout with his third goal, bringing the match to a sensational 9-1 conclusion. This victory not only secured three points but also propelled USM to the top of the league standings on goal difference, leaving them just ahead of Laroque-d'Olmes.
This shows the respect and appreciation for the team's hard work and resilience through the season.
The squad showed depth and talent throughout, including goalkeeper Kévin Borissoff, defenders Léo Darrieu, David Lac, Trestan Belix, and Léo Bassuet, as well as midfielders Mathéo, Axel, Hugo, and attackers Robin (the captain) and Guillaume.
With this triumphant series, USM will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare for their next match on March 15, 2025, against Saint-Girons 3 at home for the Challenge D3/D4 encounter and at the same time host U14 against Saint-Martory.
Success seems truly to be on the horizon for USM, and if this weekend has shown anything, it's the power of teamwork, determination, and community support.
