U.S. Minority Chamber Introduces Business English Courses

The initiative aims to boost engagement between U.S. and Latin American markets through enhanced language skills.

The United States Minority Chamber of Commerce for American Minorities has officially announced the launch of business English courses, marking what could be seen as a significant milestone for economic interaction between the United States and Latin America. The announcement was made on March 14, 2025, with the first sessions scheduled to take place on April 19 and 20, 2025, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

These intensive two-day courses are aimed at employees, business owners, and partners of companies and governmental entities seeking to master the English language and hone their business communication skills. "Our mission is to convey the message... attention to the public," stated Doug Mayorga, President of the United States Chamber of Commerce for American Minorities. His comments highlight the need for effective communication skills to navigate the growing economic opportunities between the U.S. and Latin American nations.

Not only will the courses be offered monthly in Santo Domingo, but they are also set to roll out to other key cities, including Bogota, Mexico City, and Tegucigalpa. This initiative forms part of the Chamber's strategic plan to facilitate engagement with the United States by promoting English as the primary language of business. Mayorga emphasized, "if people from the region wish to do business, visit, buy, invest, or work in the United States, our official language is English."

The mission of the United States Chamber of Commerce for American Minorities is not just focused on teaching English; it is also about fostering bilateral commerce and improving economic relations across borders. Established 25 years ago, the organization boasts over 38,000 members and operates five offices across the region, with its headquarters located in Washington, D.C.

According to Mayorga, the lack of proficiency and attention to service sectors has been identified as significant barriers for American businesses hoping to expand their reach within the second-largest market for U.S. exports—the Dominican Republic. The aim of these courses is to remedy this deficit, supporting professionals to excel within their various economic sectors.

Distinctively, the Chamber separates itself from many organizations by refusing to accept public funds from American taxpayers, which often leads to criticisms of inefficiency. Rather, its philosophy is rooted deeply within trade and investment strategies targeting safe business destinations like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Honduras. This unique approach allows for focused development of community and business networks aimed at enhancing financial growth opportunities.

These new courses open pathways for economic empowerment and demonstrate the Chamber’s commitment to promoting American influence through education and practical engagement. By tackling issues of language barriers head-on, the Chamber reflects the broader goals of fostering cooperation and improving service delivery across cultures.

The program not only intends to improve the professional skill sets of participants but also aims to align with the broader vision set by President Donald Trump's administration referencing the need for practical American business outreach and orderliness. This cooperation is fundamental as America seeks to strengthen its ties with growing economies across the region.

With these initiatives, the United States Minority Chamber of Commerce for American Minorities is poised to play an integral role supporting Americans and locals alike, ensuring cross-border relationships are built on effective communication. This venture speaks volumes about the importance placed on forging United States-Latin America business relationships, emphasizing education as the cornerstone for brighter economic prospects.
