Urgent Recall Of Emba Cookware Due To Health Risks

Office for Product Safety warns of potential heavy metal migration from recalled products.

UK households have been urged to check their kitchens following the recall of nine Emba cookware products due to serious health risks. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) announced this urgent recall after testing revealed potential migration of heavy metal components during the use of these products.

The recalled items, which include various sizes of cast iron skillets and griddles, were sold between December 27, 2023, and January 24, 2025. The specific products affected are:

  • Emba 8" Cast Iron Skillet (5056461700633)

  • Emba 10" Cast Iron Skillet (5056461700602)

  • Emba 12" Cast Iron Skillet (5056461700640)

  • Emba Skillet Collection (all skillets) (5056461701050)

  • Pre-Seasoned Reversible Cast Iron Griddle (5056461700596)

  • Emba Griddle and 8” Skillet Set (5056461701029)

  • Emba Griddle and 10” Skillet Set (5056461700626)

  • Emba Griddle and 12” Skillet Set (5056461701036)

  • Emba Complete Cookware Collection (All skillets + griddle) (5056461701043)

Consumers who own any of these products are strongly advised to stop using them immediately. The OPSS has emphasized, “The products present a health risk as testing has identified potential migration of heavy metal components during use of the product.” This alarming finding has prompted the urgent recall.

Emba Cookware, the company behind the products, has responded with regret. A spokesperson stated, “We have decided to recall certain items of Emba branded cookware due to the potential migration of heavy metal components identified during recent testing. We believe it is prudent to issue a recall at this stage. The quality and safety of our cookware is our priority, and we regret...that we may not have met the highest standards in this incident.”

To initiate the return process for these recalled cookware items, consumers should contact Emba Cookware via email at [email protected]. When doing so, customers need to provide their order number, preferred contact number, and details of the product purchased. Once the product has been returned, consumers will receive a full refund.

This recall not only affects quality cookware but also raises concerns over food safety standards, as the affected products do not meet the requirements set forth by The Materials and Articles in Contact with Food (England) Regulations 2012 or The General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Such regulations are put in place to protect consumers from potential health hazards, and violations of these standards are taken very seriously.

Health risks from consumer products are not to be taken lightly, and the response from both the OPSS and Emba Cookware reflects the seriousness of this situation. Consumers are expected to act quickly, and the authorities urge everyone to inspect their cookware for these recalled items.

Further inquiries related to this recall can be directed to Emba's customer service, which is prepared to assist affected customers. This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to remain diligent about product recalls and to prioritize safety when it involves food preparation.
