Universal Studios Japan Unveils Exciting Cool Japan 2025 Event

The year-long celebration features attractions from beloved anime and films, welcoming international fans to Japan.

Universal Studios Japan has inaugurated its much-anticipated event, Universal Cool Japan 2025, which officially opened its doors on January 24, 2025, at the park located in Osaka, Japan. The event celebrates Japanese anime, films, and games by offering unique attractions and merchandise highlighting these beloved franchises.

The event, which has become popular over the years, marks its 10th anniversary this year. For this milestone, Universal Studios Japan has chosen to host various attractions throughout the year rather than limiting the experience to just the traditional seasonal event. This year's opening features the first of many themed experiences planned for the guests.

The inaugural attraction is centered around the hit mystery series, Masquerade, adapted from the work of renowned Japanese novelist Keigo Higashino, renowned for his gripping storytelling. It includes a guest-participation mystery show, titled "The Targeted Masquerade," where participants assume the roles of characters within the narrative. They will need to engage their detective skills to solve the mystery, simulating the experience of being part of the plot's twists and turns. Participants can also indulge in buffet dining inspired by the series’ setting, the Hotel Cortesia.

Returning after several successful collaborations, the famed anime series Detective Conan will also feature prominently at Universal Cool Japan 2025. The immersive experience ties closely to the release of its newest movie, "Detective Conan: The Faded Visions," set to premiere this April. Fans and visitors can look forward to engaging escape room challenges, story-themed roller coasters, and mystery dining experiences.

Project Director Ken Seki Miyazono commented on the event's growing popularity, stating, “Now, Universal Cool Japan is not only popular among Japanese people but also expected by international guests. We want to showcase works requested by visitors from not only Japan but also abroad.” This sentiment reflects the event's ambition to appeal to thrill-seekers from outside Japan, enhancing the cultural exchange through entertainment.

During the launch, Miyazono also emphasized the interactive nature of this year's offerings, mentioning, “Participants can enjoy different endings through interviews and experience the hidden thoughts of each character.” These elements are expected to provide attendees with uniquely personal experiences and deepen their engagement with the stories.

The events tied to the Masquerade series will run from January 24 to June 30, with tickets for participation priced starting at 8,500 yen. The Detective Conan-themed experiences will be available from January 31 until June 30, with separate ticket pricing for its various attractions—such as the Detective Conan Mystery Restaurant and the Detective Conan The Escape event, priced at 7,000 yen and 3,980 yen, respectively.

It's worth noting one of the rides, the Detective Conan Story Ride, will undergo maintenance and will be temporarily closed from February 5 to February 24, ensuring everything stays fresh and enjoyable for guests.

For more details about the event, including ticket information and schedules, visitors are encouraged to check the official Universal Studios Japan website.

Universal Cool Japan 2025 promises to offer fans of Japanese culture and entertainment memorable experiences as the event expands its focus to cater to international visitors and celebrates the best of Japanese storytelling.
