UNIQLO Opens New Flagship Store In Futako-Tamagawa

The new store collaborates with local businesses to enrich community engagement and customer experience.

UNIQLO has officially launched its newest store, the Tamataka store, on the 4th floor of the Tamagawa Takashimaya South building in Futako-Tamagawa, Tokyo, on March 20, 2025. The opening was met with much enthusiasm, with roughly 1,200 people queuing from the early morning, forming lines that stretched an impressive 600 meters at their peak.

What sparked such fervor? Many shoppers had their eyes on the exclusive collaboration T-shirts with Ron Herman, a celebrated American brand known for its connection to the British royal family. Customers expressed their excitement, with some saying that purchasing the tees made their lengthy wait all the more rewarding. The collaboration items are limited to the Tamataka store, driving up excitement and anticipation among local shoppers.

Reflecting UNIQLO's commitment to cultivating local ties, the store boasts a design that enhances customer experience. The interior features spacious pathways that make it easy for customers with strollers to navigate, as well as an inviting lounge area for breaks. Additionally, the store will offer seasonal floral arrangements starting from just 390 yen each, as part of the unique local flavor the Tamataka store is aiming to deliver.

During the media event leading up to the grand opening, UNIQLO announced various initiatives and partnerships intended to engage the community. Collaborating with nearby businesses, like Let It Be Coffee and Futako Beer Brewery, the store aims to accentuate the local culture by offering products like coffee beans and special beer cocktails for a limited time. Also noteworthy is the launch of the "UNIQLO CITY GUIDE TAMATAKA AREA," a guidebook designed to promote the area’s attractions.

One of the highlights of the store is the launch of UNIQLO’s collaborative T-shirts with Ron Herman, retailing at 1,990 yen for men and 990 yen for kids. This unique design features a refined take on the regular Airism Cotton crew neck styles, including a narrower collar and a longer straight silhouette. The enthusiasm for these limited-edition T-shirts led to a phenomenon in resale prices, with reports of them being listed online for successive amounts ranging between 5,000 to 10,000 yen, marking a staggering five-fold increase over the retail price.

As part of further commitments to the local community, a company representative outlined the vision for the store stating, "The Tamataka store aims to showcase the charm of the area and deliver a special shopping experience to its customers." This is complemented by their ambition to become a community hub that encourages discovery and appreciation of Futako-Tamagawa’s local offerings.

In addition to local collaborations, the store will be among the first to introduce a network of pickup lockers, allowing customers to conveniently collect online orders. Following its pilot at the Tamataka store, UNIQLO plans to roll out this service to 30 additional locations across Japan starting March 2025.

During the opening ceremony, announcer Yurie Sasakawa remarked on the beauty of the area: “It’s a perfect spot to enjoy shopping, even with kids, due to its greenery,” highlighting the inviting atmosphere that the new store is designed to encapsulate.

The Tamataka store is not only a retail establishment but a vibrant new venue that melds community engagement with shopping convenience and curated local experiences. As the store settles into its place in the Futako-Tamagawa area, it aims to become more than just a shopping destination—it seeks to foster community pride and stimulate local cultural appreciation. This new flagship store could very well redefine what local shopping means in this bustling part of Tokyo.
