Union Calls 24-Hour Strike Disrupting Train Services

On May 11, the O.S. Or.S.A. union's strike will halt services, impacting travelers across the region.

On May 11, 2025, the O.S. Or.S.A. union has announced a 24-hour strike due to ongoing organizational issues within the company. This strike is expected to significantly disrupt train services in the region, particularly affecting the Vesuvian lines, which are crucial for daily commuters and travelers.

In a previous strike held on March 22, 2025, the O.S. Or.S.A. experienced a participation rate of 40.31%. This time, the union anticipates a similar level of engagement, which could lead to substantial delays and cancellations throughout the day.

Train services will only be guaranteed during specific time slots: from 05:30 to 08:30 and again from 16:30 to 19:30. Outside of these hours, the operation of trains will hinge on the number of workers who choose to participate in the strike. This uncertainty poses challenges for passengers relying on these services.

In a related announcement, Eav, the transport company responsible for the Vesuvian lines, has confirmed that due to the expected influx of travelers and to ensure safety and public order, all trains on these lines will not stop at the Piazza Garibaldi station for the entire duration of the strike. Instead, trains arriving in Naples will stop at Porta Nolana, while those departing will bypass Piazza Garibaldi altogether.

This decision is expected to inconvenience many as Piazza Garibaldi is a key hub for commuters and travelers alike. The strike coincides with a busy weekend, further complicating travel plans for those attending events in the city.

Moreover, the planned extension of service hours on the Cumana line, which was scheduled to accommodate fans attending the Napoli-Genoa soccer match at the Maradona stadium, will not take place. Consequently, the Cumana service will conclude as per its regular schedule, with the last trains departing from Mostra-stadio Maradona at 22:09 towards Montesanto and at 21:55 towards Torregaveta.

As the strike approaches, commuters are urged to plan accordingly and seek alternative transportation methods where possible. The situation highlights ongoing tensions between workers and management within the transport sector, reflecting broader issues of labor relations and employee satisfaction.

Union representatives have expressed that the strike is a necessary response to unresolved organizational problems that affect both workers and passengers. They emphasize the need for management to address these concerns to prevent future disruptions.

Travelers are advised to stay informed about the latest developments regarding the strike and to check for updates on train schedules. The strike serves as a reminder of the critical role that public transport plays in the daily lives of many, and the impact labor disputes can have on the community.
