Ulan-Ude, Russia – A man was sentenced after attempting to sidestep legal repercussions for driving under the influence by submitting fake medical documents to the authorities.
Last spring, the man had been convicted for drunk driving, receiving a punishment of 180 hours of mandatory community service. His assigned task was to work at the city beautification enterprise, but when the time came for him to fulfill this obligation, he failed to report for work.
Instead of submitting to his sentence, he concocted a story of illness, claiming he was suffering from food poisoning. To support his excuse, he sent what he presented as medical documentation through messaging services, purportedly from a pediatrician.
Kristina Oganesyan, the assistant prosecutor of the Soviet district of Ulan-Ude, stated, "During the inquiry, it was revealed he did not seek medical help from anyone," which clearly indicated the forgery of documentation.
The authorities took the false claim seriously and proceeded with thorough verification, questioning whether the man had actually sought any medical assistance. Their determination found his explanation unsubstantiated.
Upon examination of the situation, the court found the man guilty of committing the crime outlined under Article 327 of the Criminal Code of Russia, which deals with forgery of official documents.
Due to the gravity of his actions and the audacity of his attempts to escape lawful punishment, he was handed down not only another layer of punishment but was also levied with financial penalties. The court imposed a fine of 10,000 rubles against him.
Authorities emphasized the seriousness of such acts, viewing them as undermining the justice system. The man now faces not only the original charge related to his driving offense but additional punishment for attempting to mislead authorities.
While the legal aspect is resolved, this case serves as a cautionary tale about the lengths to which individuals might go to avoid service to their community and the eventual consequences they face when caught attempting to deceive the system.
