Ukraine is taking steps to extend humanitarian aid to Syria, leveraging resources from its "Grain from Ukraine" program. President Volodymyr Zelensky made this announcement during his evening video address on Sunday, outlining how Ukrainian agricultural products can support food security beyond its borders.
Specifically, Zelensky noted the country’s capacity to provide wheat, flour, and oil, which are desperately needed by the Syrian population. "Now we can help the Syrians with Ukrainian wheat, flour and our oil – our products used worldwide to secure food security," he stated. He emphasized the necessity for logistical agreements with Syrian representatives to facilitate this assistance.
This humanitarian initiative aligns with Ukraine’s broader objectives amid its continuing conflict with Russia. Since representing Kyiv on the global stage, Zelensky has focused not just on military matters but also on how Ukraine can position itself as a contributor to international aid and stability.
Fundamentally, this humanitarian program was initiated last year to address food shortages around the globe, particularly affecting countries across Africa and Asia. Zelensky highlighted the importance of this endeavor, linking it to the wider goal of establishing lasting peace not only within Ukraine but also throughout affected regions globally.
Simultaneously, Zelensky continues to monitor the situation at the front lines of the conflict. During his address, he reported receiving updates from Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi about the challenging circumstances faced by Ukrainian forces, particularly around the Pokrovsk sector and Kurakhove. "The situation remains difficult... I am grateful to all the units destroying the occupiers there," he remarked, acknowledging the bravery and dedication of the troops engaged.
According to reports, 152 combat engagements have already occurred throughout the day, reflecting the intensity of the fight. The Russian army has concentrated its attacks significantly on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove sectors. Zelensky expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian soldiers for their perseverance amid such adversities.
"We need strength there to achieve the right outcomes for Ukraine and Ukrainians in diplomacy," he underscored, highlighting the dual focus of military engagement and diplomatic efforts leading toward peace.
Above all, Zelensky reiterated the need for peace, describing it as not just preferable but necessary for the future of Ukraine. "We need lasting peace. A guaranteed peace. We will undoubtedly achieve our objectives," he concluded, signaling hope amid turmoil. This sentiment encapsulates the spirit of Ukrainian resilience both at home and abroad as they seek to turn the tide not only of their conflict but also to support those suffering from similar crises worldwide.
