UK Weather Set To Warm Up This Week With Spring Approaching

Temperatures may soar above 19°C across parts of the UK, surpassing popular destinations like Ibiza and Corfu.

The UK is set to experience exceptionally warm and dry weather this week, thanks to high pressure dominating the forecast, which the Met Office is calling good news for those eagerly awaiting the onset of spring. With temperatures forecasted to rise significantly, many parts of the UK might enjoy weather milder than favored Mediterranean destinations.

Starting Monday, March 17, 2025, the dry and settled conditions are expected to pave the way for warm spells, particularly on Thursday, March 20, coinciding with the spring equinox. Mid Wales could see temperatures soar to 19°C, according to the Met Office, making it eight degrees warmer than the seasonal average. "We're expecting quite a lot of dry weather, increasing amounts of sunshine as we head through the next few days," stated Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell.

On Tuesday, March 18, the weather forecast for Wales predicts widespread sunshine, with temperatures aiming for around 10°C; though the day may feel chilly due to the east to southeasterly wind. The forecast is promising for Wednesday, as winds shift direction, leading to milder conditions. Meteorologists expect "plenty more sunshine on Wednesday with lighter winds," Mitchell noted, and temperatures climbing to approximately 17°C.

London is also bracing for bright spells, with temperatures forecasted to start at 11°C on Tuesday and then rise sharply to 18°C on Wednesday. This will position the capital warmer than other holiday favorites, like Corfu and Ibiza, projected to reach only 16°C and 17°C, respectively.

Thursday is anticipated to be the hottest day of the week across the UK, especially mid Wales, where many residents could enjoy temperatures hitting 19°C. "By Thursday, we could get as high as 19°C," added Mitchell, highlighting the comparative warmth of the UK’s weather against typical spring norms.

Yet, as the week progresses, the weather will not be without its changes; Friday may see some overcast conditions, with potential rain moving in from the south or west. The Met Office warns of these shifts, stating, "wetter weather will probably spread to all areas, at least for a time. Temperatures are likely to be widely above average at the start of this period before probably falling back and then fluctuated around average for the remainder of the period." Rain showers might make their way through Friday and Saturday, impacting the otherwise warm spell.

Overall, this week promises abundant sunshine and rising temperatures, creating the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities and enjoyment as spring approaches. The long-range UK forecast hints at the likelihood of unsettled weather on the horizon, with possible rainy spells mid to late March. Despite this, the immediate future offers up the enticing prospect of warm, sunshine-filled days.
