UK Premiere Of Dracula, A Comedy Of Terrors Announced

Menier Chocolate Factory to host reimagined Dracula from March to May 2025

Fans of theatrical innovation can mark their calendars for the UK premiere of Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors, which will be staged at the Menier Chocolate Factory from March 8 to May 3, 2025. This fresh adaptation by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen reimagines Bram Stoker's horror classic with humor and modern twists.

The production takes on the gothic tale with a decidedly comedic lens, featuring a Gen Z pansexual Count Dracula grappling with existential dilemmas. This unique interpretation sheds light on contemporary themes surrounding sexuality and gender norms, capturing the spirit of comedic legends such as Charles Ludlam and Monty Python.

Director Gordon Greenberg, known for his previous successful productions at Menier including The Baker’s Wife and Barnum, is set to lead this intriguing project. The talented creative team includes set designer Tijana Bjelajac, costume designer Tristan Raines, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, and sound designer Yvonne Gilbert, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the play.

The plot centers around Jonathan Harker, portrayed as a timid English estate agent, who embarks on a fateful trip to meet his dubious new client, Count Dracula. The character of Dracula is not only sinister but also narcissistic and self-absorbed, marking this version as both frightening and amusing.

Throughout the 90-minute performance, five actors will skillfully toggle between multiple roles, delivering the storyline with rapid-fire transitions and witty humor. This structure promises to keep audiences engaged and entertained, reflecting the innovative nature of live theatre.

The play follows the currently running The Producers at the Menier, which ends on March 1, 2025. Public booking for Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors opens on January 14, allowing patrons to secure their seats for this exciting theatrical experience.

This production not only revisits the chilling classic but also celebrates the campy, goth aesthetics of the genre, inviting viewers to immerse themselves fully. It stands to be a remarkable addition to London’s vibrant theatre scene.

With its mix of humor and horror, Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors promises to offer audiences not just laughter but also thought-provoking scenarios reflective of today’s cultural conversations.

Don't miss this chance to see the gripping tale of Dracula transformed through the lens of modern comedy, where gothic horror meets gleeful absurdity.

Preparation is underway for what is expected to be another standout production at the Menier Chocolate Factory, and audiences can look forward with anticipation to this theatrical delight.
