UConn Lands Talented Guard Silas Demary Jr. From Georgia

The Huskies bolster their roster with a promising transfer, aiming for championship aspirations

STORRS – The UConn men's basketball team has made a significant addition to its roster with the commitment of Silas Demary Jr., a highly regarded guard who has officially signed an aid agreement with the program on April 3, 2025. The 6-foot-5 Demary Jr., who previously played two seasons at Georgia, is set to join the Huskies for the 2025-26 season, bringing with him two years of eligibility.

Demary Jr. arrives in Storrs after a productive stint at Georgia, where he emerged as a key player for the Bulldogs. Over his 70-game career at Georgia from 2023 to 2025, he averaged 11.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. His shooting statistics are equally impressive, boasting a 35.3 percent success rate from beyond the arc and a 75.4 percent free throw percentage.

During his freshman year in 2023-24, Demary Jr. made an immediate impact, averaging 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. His performance earned him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team, where he ranked 11th in the conference with an average of 1.4 steals per game. The following season saw a significant rise in his production; he started all 33 games for an NCAA Tournament team and improved his scoring average to 13.5 points per game, along with 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

Demary Jr.'s ability to perform under pressure was evident as he recorded six career games with over 20 points, including a standout performance where he scored a career-high 26 points against Texas. His contributions were vital in leading Georgia to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015, and he was recognized as one of the top players in the SEC.

UConn head coach Dan Hurley expressed enthusiasm about Demary Jr.'s addition, stating, "Silas is the type of big guard we love at UConn and we can't wait to get him in the mix. He can score from all three levels, playmake and use his length to guard multiple positions. Silas comes from a great family and will fit our championship culture to a tee."

Demary Jr.'s recruitment was highly competitive, with the guard reportedly choosing UConn over other prestigious programs, including Kentucky and BYU. His visit to UConn on April 1, 2025, was pivotal in his decision-making process. During his visit, he felt a strong connection with the coaching staff, particularly Associate Head Coach Kimani Young, who expressed confidence in Demary's potential to fill the point guard role vacated by Tristen Newton, a former consensus All-American.

Reflecting on his visit, Demary Jr. shared, "When I first saw (Associate Head Coach) Kimani Young, he was just like, 'Man, there goes my PG.' Me hearing him say that gave me a lot of confidence in myself and it just made me feel secure with who I was and secure with him, knowing that he’s gonna be here for me, he’s gonna be that guy."

Demary Jr.'s commitment marks a significant step for UConn as they look to rebuild their roster following the loss of four players to the transfer portal, including guards Aidan Mahaney and Ahmad Nowell. The Huskies are also navigating potential departures as players like Alex Karaban and Liam McNeeley consider entering the NBA Draft. With Demary Jr. now in the fold, UConn's incoming class for the 2025-26 season includes five players: Demary Jr., Darius Adams, Jacob Furphy, Braylon Mullins, and Eric Reibe.

As the Huskies aim to return to their championship-winning ways, Demary Jr. represents not just a talented addition but also a player with a winning mentality. He stated, "In my past I’ve been a winner and the big stage is somewhere I feel like I thrive. This is a program that’s built on winning and having the big stage, and I feel like it was time for me to come to that stage and I feel like that’s why I ended up here."

Looking ahead, UConn fans have reason to be excited about the upcoming season. With Demary Jr. joining the ranks, the Huskies are poised to make a strong push in the NCAA tournament, especially considering their recent history of success. UConn won back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024, and despite a disappointing exit as an 8-seed in the 2025 tournament, the program's foundation remains strong.

Demary Jr.'s versatility as a guard, combined with his scoring ability and defensive skills, positions him as a key player in UConn's quest for another championship run. As the Huskies continue to build their roster, the addition of Demary Jr. signals a commitment to excellence and a focus on returning to the top of college basketball.

As the 2025-26 season approaches, all eyes will be on UConn and their new star guard, Silas Demary Jr., as they look to reclaim their status among the elite in college basketball.
