UAE Residents Brace for Cold Weather and Rain: Record Low Temperatures Expected
The United Arab Emirates is currently experiencing unseasonably cool temperatures, with residents adapting to the arrival of winter clothing. Recently, the thermometer dipped to 7.1°C at Raknah, Al Ain, marking the coldest point of the day. This temperature drop is largely attributed to Raknah’s unique geographical features and topography.
According to Dr. Ahmed Habib, meteorologist from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), Raknah consistently records low temperatures due to its distinct environment, which includes wadis, dunes, and various types of vegetation. "The air mass moves from higher to lower elevations, it cools down, causing a temperature drop," he elaborated.
Weather forecast interpretations by the NCM indicate the possibility of rain over several days. The rain, anticipated to commence from December 23 and continuing until noon on December 28, is driven by an extended low-pressure system originating from the Arabian Sea. This weather pattern is expected to bring notable changes across various regions.
While Raknah records low temperatures, the weather throughout the UAE is characterized as partly cloudy with light to moderate northwesterly winds gusting up to 35 km/h. By Sunday night and Monday morning, residents can expect increased humidity levels, especially in coastal and internal areas. This rise in humidity could potentially lead to fog or mist formation, which could affect visibility on the roads.
The UAE's winter season is traditionally divided, according to the local Arabian Gulf calendar, where notable periods include "Arba in Al Merei" and "Arba in Al Aqrabi," typically lasting around 40 days each. Dr. Habib noted, "While the winter season brings higher chances of rain, the actual occurrence depends on the specific atmospheric conditions at the time." This means residents should remain attentive to weather updates to prepare for potential rainstorms.
Conditions across the Arabian Gulf are expected to remain slight to moderate, creating manageable sea conditions for maritime activities. Meanwhile, the adjoining Oman Sea will remain fairly calm.
With forecasts indicating significant weather events, UAE residents are advised to stay informed through the NCM and be ready for shifts from relatively cool days to possibly rainy conditions. This weather pattern is not only indicative of the changing seasons but also demonstrates the dynamic nature of climate conditions experienced within the region.
Experts like Dr. Habib continue to monitor and report changes, ensuring the public stays updated on how the winter might develop throughout its course. The coming days will undoubtedly remain interesting for those watching the sky as weather changes introduce both challenges and moments of reprieve from the heat typical of desert climates.
