UAE Prepares For Eid Al Fitr With Free Parking

Public transport authorities extend services and offer free parking for holiday travelers

As Eid Al Fitr approaches, public transport authorities across the UAE are gearing up to accommodate the increased demand during this festive period. Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman have announced a series of initiatives, including free parking and extended public transport services, to ensure smooth travel for residents and visitors alike.

In Dubai, all public parking will be free from the 1st to the 3rd of Shawwal, with paid parking fees resuming on the 4th of Shawwal. This initiative is part of the city’s efforts to ease transportation during the holiday, as many families travel to celebrate together. The Dubai Metro will also extend its operating hours during the Eid break. The Red and Green Line stations will operate from 5 am to 1 am the following day on Saturday, March 29, 2025; from 8 am to 1 am the following day on Sunday, March 30, 2025; and from 5 am to 1 am the following day from Monday, March 31, 2025, to Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Additionally, the Dubai Tram will run from 6 am to 1 am the following day from Saturday to Monday, March 29 to 31, and from 9 am to 1 am the following day on Sunday, March 30.

Sharjah Municipality has confirmed that free public parking will also be available on the first three days of Eid, except in blue-signposted paid zones, which will remain active year-round. The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) is preparing to operate over 7,000 intercity buses to meet the increased demand during the public holidays.

Ajman Municipality has joined the initiative, announcing that all paid parking in Ajman will be free from the 1st to the 3rd of Shawwal, celebrating Eid Al Fitr with residents. These measures reflect the authorities' commitment to enhancing the festive experience for everyone in the region.

As the holiday festivities commence, Dubai is also preparing for a vibrant celebration of Eid Al Fitr in 2025. The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has announced that Eid prayers will begin at 6:30 AM across over 680 mosques and prayer areas in Dubai. These prayers mark the end of Ramadan and are a significant part of the Eid celebrations.

The traditional cannon firing, a cherished cultural practice, will take place at seven designated sites including Za'abeel Grand Mosque and various Eid prayer grounds in Umm Suqeim, Nad Al Hamar, Al Barsha, Nad Al Sheba, Al Baraha, and Hatta. Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, Commander of the Cannon Team, emphasized the importance of this tradition, stating that it is deeply rooted in the community's memory and consciousness.

While specific details about the festivities are still emerging, residents can expect a lively atmosphere filled with family-friendly activities, cultural performances, and fireworks displays across popular areas such as Jumeirah Beach, Riverland Dubai, City Walk, and Souk Madinat Jumeirah. The joyous occasion is a time for family gatherings, delicious feasts featuring traditional sweets like Seviyan and Kheer, and acts of charity.

As for the exact date of Eid Al Fitr, it hinges on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon. The International Astronomy Centre suggests a 30-day Ramadan, which would result in Eid falling on March 31, 2025. However, official confirmation will come from the UAE's moon sighting committee, which is responsible for declaring the start of Eid.

In addition to the UAE, other countries are also preparing for Eid Al Fitr. Bangladesh, for instance, has officially declared Monday, March 31, 2025, as the first day of Eid. Indonesia and Malaysia have followed suit, confirming that they will observe Eid on the same day after the non-sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on March 29, 2025. Brunei has also confirmed that Eid Al Fitr will be observed on March 31.

In Saudi Arabia, Eid Al Fitr is set to be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The Supreme Court’s Crescent Committee will convene to review potential sightings reported by observatories, while more than 20 observatories will search for the Shawwal crescent.

As the UAE and other countries gear up for this significant holiday, the excitement among residents and visitors is palpable. Whether through the vibrant celebrations, community prayers, or the traditional cannon firing, Eid Al Fitr promises to be a memorable occasion across the region.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the festivities and embrace the spirit of Eid. Local news outlets and official websites will provide the latest updates on events and timings, ensuring everyone can join in the celebrations.
