The weather across the UAE has turned turbulent as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issues severe weather alerts. Dusty and partly cloudy skies are expected over several northern, coastal, and eastern regions, with light rainfall added to the mix.
Today, the weather will be dominated by strong northwesterly winds, with speeds reaching up to 60 km/h. This has resulted in orange and yellow alerts being issued for the sea, warning of very rough conditions. Waves are expected to reach heights of up to nine feet in the Arabian Gulf, with advisories remaining active until 6 am Thursday.
According to the NCM, the varying weather patterns indicate humidity is likely to increase, especially during Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Despite the unseasonably cooler temperatures, coastal areas are on alert for potentially hazardous conditions. The skies across the UAE will see dust blown across the region, particularly affecting visibility.
Dubai is currently experiencing partly cloudy skies with daytime temperatures peaking at 22°C, dropping to around 20°C at night. Abu Dhabi reports similar temperatures, with highs of 22°C and lows of 18°C, and Sharjah is slightly cooler with highs at 21°C.
Earlier today, light rain was reported across various regions, including Al Ghail, Ras Al Khaimah, and parts of Fujairah. This afternoon revealed light to moderate rain affecting Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, along with light rainfall observed at Dubai International Airport and Al Minhad. Conditions were also dampened earlier this morning at Al Bateen Airport, enhancing the need for drivers to exercise caution during travel.
"If you are planning to visit the beach, please exercise caution as rough sea alerts have been issued," said the NCM. These turbulent conditions, coupled with dust and sand blown by strong winds, are expected to reduce horizontal visibility, which poses risks for drivers and those outside, especially individuals with respiratory sensitivities.
Temperatures have shown signs of decline, with forecasts predicting lows as low as 12°C for the Mezaira region. The highest predicted temperature today remains 24°C for areas such as Fujairah and Razeen.
The NCM has warned residents to be extra cautious, stating, "Be on the lookout for hazardous weather conditions." This includes observing official weather reports as they track the evolution of these conditions throughout the week. Winds and sea conditions are expected to remain active until Thursday morning, ensuring residents keep updated on their safety and travel plans.
The heavy winds are not only creating surf conditions potentially dangerous to swimmers and sailors but are also serving as reminders of the changing seasons. Recent temperatures had shown signs of climbing, reaching 31°C just weeks ago, marking the shift from winter to the spring season as warmer months approach.
With weather expected to improve as spring progresses, UAE residents are reminded to stay informed about weather patterns and heed warnings from meteorological authorities. Even with the forecast of more favorable conditions later, these alerts reflect the persistence of weather volatility common to the region.
Overall, today's weather exemplifies the intricacies of the UAE's climate, offering both beauty and challenges for its residents and visitors. Continuing to follow the NCM updates is advised for those planning outdoor activities this week, ensuring they navigate the weather safely.
