Tyson Degenhart Earns Spot On NABC Mountain District First Team

The Boise State star continues to break records and earns accolades as the season progresses.

Tyson Degenhart, the talented forward for Boise State, continues to bolster his resume with accolades for his impressive senior season. On March 18, 2025, he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Mountain District First Team, a notable recognition in a newly-revised format for the NABC Division I All-District Teams. This year, the teams were arranged by state rather than by conference, now featuring 10 geographic regions that cover multiple states – a shift that highlights the diversity of talent across the Mountain District.

The Mountain District includes states such as Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming, showcasing a competitive field of players. Degenhart's performance this season has been nothing short of remarkable. As a starter in all 34 games, he has averaged 17.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists, while shooting an impressive 51.8 percent from the field and nearly 80 percent from the free-throw line.

This recognition marks a significant highlight in Degenhart's college basketball journey as this is the second consecutive year he has received a first-team selection. Last season, he was named to the NABC All-District 17 First Team, further establishing himself as one of the league's standout players.

In addition to his recent accolade, Degenhart achieved a monumental milestone last week during the Mountain West Tournament by becoming Boise State’s all-time leading scorer. With a career total of 1,971 points, he eclipsed Tanoka Beard's previous record of 1,944 points, which had stood for more than three decades. His consistent scoring ability has placed him among an elite group in NCAA Division I men's basketball, as he is one of only 18 players to record over 600 points and 200 rebounds in a single season.

During the ongoing season, Degenhart has accumulated 13 games in which he scored 20 or more points, solidifying his reputation as a clutch player. His scoring efficiency has earned him the third-highest points-per-game average in the Mountain West Conference, further evidence of his contributions on the court.

The All-Mountain West selection for the third straight year further emphasizes Degenhart's prowess. With these accomplishments, he stands as only the second player, alongside Jimmer Fredette from BYU, to achieve three first-team selections, reinforcing his status as a basketball talent to watch in future leagues.

Degenhart’s team, however, has faced disappointment, as Boise State (24-10) did not receive a bid for the NCAA Tournament. Instead, they have been selected to participate in the inaugural College Basketball Crown, a prestigious new tournament featuring 16 teams, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas from March 31 to April 6, 2025.

This tournament will be an opportunity for Degenhart to showcase his skills against top competition as the Broncos are set to open play against George Washington (21-12) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on March 31, 2025, at 3:30 PM Mountain Time.

The rich competitive history of the Mountain West Conference is reflected in the other first-team selections from the district, including Nique Clifford of Colorado State, Donovan Dent from New Mexico (who was also named the MWC Player of the Year), and Utah State's Mason Falslev and Ian Martinez. Additionally, Nick Davidson of Nevada and Dedan Thomas Jr. from UNLV earned spots on the second team.

Boise State's Richard Pitino, after guiding the team through this challenging season with strategic prowess, was named Coach of the Year in the Mountain District, further highlighting the program's achievements under his leadership.

As the season flows into the culminating College Basketball Crown, Degenhart and his teammates will look to navigate through this new challenge and establish their dominance in the tournament. The college basketball community is keenly watching how Degenhart will perform on this stage, where he aims to lead his team while continuing to enhance his promising legacy.

In the high-stakes world of college basketball, Tyson Degenhart's journey becomes more compelling with each award and record shattered. His growth as a player not only brings recognition to him but also to Boise State, solidifying the program's standing in collegiate athletics.
