Typhoon No. 10 Moves Slowly Over South China Sea

Meteorological authorities warn of strong winds and high waves as storm poses threat to maritime safety.

Typhoon No. 10 Moves Slowly, But Threatens Coastal Areas

Typhoon No. 10, currently situated over the South China Sea, has exhibited minimal movement over recent hours according to the Thanh Hóa Meteorological Center. At 1 PM on December 24, the storm was recorded at approximately 11.4 degrees North latitude and 111.7 degrees East longitude, with wind speeds reaching up to 74 km/h, gusting at 10. The typhoon is projected to move west-southwest at roughly 5 km/h, maintaining its position predominantly.

For the next 24 to 48 hours, forecasts predict the possibility of heavy winds and high waves. The areas expected to be affected include the maritime zones near the southwest of the Mid-South China Sea and regions surrounding the northwestern Spratly Islands. Current estimates indicate winds may reach strength seven or eight, with waves between four and six meters high, making the sea conditions excessively turbulent.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urges local fishing vessels operating within these perilous waters to take necessary precautions against the violent weather conditions represented by this typhoon.

According to the National Center for Meteorological Forecasting, the storm’s slight movement can result in unpredictability concerning landfall predictions, which requires constant monitoring. Notably, the coastal regions stretching from Khánh Hòa to Bình Thuận are on high alert, experiencing strong winds level six, with gusts up to nine and significant wave heights reaching three to six meters along with rough seas.

With the storm’s path overshadowing preparations for potential evacuations and safety measures for local fishermen, authorities are emphasizing the importance of caution. Fishermen have been urged to remain indoors and avoid sea travel until the storm dissipates. Local governmental units are working actively on response strategies, ensuring asset security and readiness.

By the end of the day on December 24, precipitation and thunderstorms are expected to occur over the western part of the Mid-South China Sea, with significant wind gusts and possible tornadoes across fishing areas. Marine forecasts indicate substantial storm clouds over these territories, compelling adverse weather responses. Following severe precipitation within the northern zones of the East Sea, the adverse weather is anticipated to persist across extensive territories, from Quảng Trị to Bình Thuận.

Efforts are underway to facilitate transportation and mobilization of individuals traveling back home for the upcoming Tết Nguyên Đán 2025 celebrations, with added railway services scheduled to operate throughout the festival period.

The Thanh Hóa provincial government has taken proactive measures to minimize the impact of Typhoon No. 10 and its residual effects published by environmental agencies. Initiatives include strengthening infrastructure resilience and working with local communities to communicate risk effectively.

Continued engagement with residents is valued, as local meteorological departments relay warnings to both shore-side and offshore residents to adhere strictly to safety recommendations. The transportation department has also announced adjustments to bus routes to facilitate safer travel for the town's population, reflecting the necessity for situational awareness surrounding the typhoon’s expectations.

While the storm's current position signifies limited displacement, outcomes may drastically shift, emphasizing the need for preparedness as communities await detailed assessments from experts, continuous outreach, and precautionary efforts. Future developments and weather updates will be closely monitored, ensuring the safety of individuals as Typhoon No. 10’s path adjusts.
