On March 29, 2025, the prestigious "David Rivelazioni Italiane – Italian Rising Stars" award ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Tuscany Region, celebrating the achievements of six emerging talents in the Italian film industry. This event followed the announcement of the winners on December 13, 2024, at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, marking the culmination of the "50 Giorni di Cinema a Firenze" festival.
The six winners of the second edition of the award are Federico Cesari, Celeste Dalla Porta, Carlotta Gamba, Matteo Oscar Giuggioli, Tecla Insolia, and Emanuele Palumbo. Each of these young actors has made a significant impact in films and television series, showcasing their talent and potential in the competitive landscape of Italian cinema.
The award ceremony was graced by notable figures, including Eugenio Giani, the President of the Tuscany Region; Piera Detassis, the President and Artistic Director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – Premi David di Donatello; Giovanni Bettarini, the Culture Assessor of the Municipality of Florence; and Aldo Cursano, a member of the Board of the Florence Chamber of Commerce and President of PromoFirenze.
During the ceremony, the winners received statuettes specially crafted by Bvlgari, a historic partner of the David di Donatello awards. This recognition is a testament to the quality of their work, as the winners were chosen by the Presidency of the David and the Board of Directors, which includes industry professionals such as Nicola Borrelli, Francesca Cima, and Valeria Golino.
The "David Rivelazioni Italiane – Italian Rising Stars" award is a collaborative effort involving various professions within the film industry, supported by the Ministry of Culture and in partnership with the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Florence, Fondazione CR Firenze, and the Florence Chamber of Commerce. This initiative aims to highlight and support young talent in the film sector, reflecting a commitment to nurturing the next generation of filmmakers.
As part of their recognition, the six winners are undergoing a training program with esteemed mentors, including Piera Detassis, noted actress and director Sonia Bergamasco, film critic Paolo Mereghetti, and Nicoletta Maraschio, President Emeritus of the Accademia della Crusca. This mentorship is designed to provide them with valuable insights and professional guidance as they advance in their careers.
Eugenio Giani expressed his satisfaction with the award, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and encouraging young talents in the Italian film industry. "It is crucial to enhance the young talents of our cinema and encourage their commitment and creativity through such important recognitions," he stated.
Highlighting Tuscany's investment in the film sector, Giani noted the allocation of funds to support film and audiovisual production, as well as the activation of training courses in film professions at the Manifatture Digitali Cinema Prato, an infrastructure linked to the Tuscany Film Commission. He reiterated the support of Tuscan institutions for the world of cinema and culture, wishing the award winners a future filled with success.
Piera Detassis remarked on the significance of the award, describing it as an extraordinary initiative born from the collaboration between the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – Premi David di Donatello and Fondazione Sistema Toscana. "This award is already important, designed to support the young talents of our cinema, who receive the precious reproduction of the David di Donatello award, affectionately nicknamed 'Il Davidino,'" she said.
Giovanni Bettarini, the Culture Assessor of Florence, expressed pride in hosting the David di Donatello award ceremony for the second time, stating, "It is a prestigious recognition that arises from collaboration with the international festival '50 Giorni di Cinema a Firenze,' with which we, as a Municipality, collaborate, making our city's role increasingly central in cinema."
Aldo Cursano added, "It is an honor to participate in the award ceremony for new talents in Italian cinema. I believe cinema is not only a cornerstone of culture but also a driver of the Florentine economy, through the many high-quality films shot in our areas, which have fostered the emergence of a series of service companies. As the Chamber of Commerce and PromoFirenze, we want to stand by the Region in promoting excellence in cinema."
Bernabò Bocca, President of Fondazione CR Firenze, sent his greetings, stating, "Our institution is dedicating its best energies and significant resources to education and training for young people across various fields. This recognition rewards talent in an important area, which is gaining increasing attention, especially among the youth. We have always believed in the strong educational value of the performing arts and extend our best wishes for success to the six young winners."
In a significant development, it was announced that for the first time, the winner of the award will be revealed live on RaiUno during the David70 award ceremony in May. Additionally, this year's ceremony will introduce shortlists in several categories, including Best Hairstyle, Best Casting, Best Composer, Best Costumes, Best VFX Effects, Best Set Design, Best Sound, and Best Makeup, further expanding the scope of recognition within the industry.
