Turkmenistan Engages Globally With Condolences And Victories

President extends support over tragic plane crash and Arkadag footballers shine with historic treble win.

The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressed condolences to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev following the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane. According to the report by APA, this heartfelt communication emphasized the President's deep sympathies for the numerous human losses and injuries resulting from the incident.

"Please accept my deepest condolences for the numerous human losses and injuries resulting from the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane. [...] I express deep sympathies and support to the families and loved ones of those who perished, and extend wishes for a swift recovery to the injured," wrote Berdimuhamedov.

Turning to sports, FC Arkadag made headlines by securing their first treble this season, which includes the gold medals for the national championship, the Super Cup, and the Turkmenistan Cup, following their decisive 1-0 victory over AFC Ahal. This match took place at the central arena of the multifunctional stadium in Ashgabat.

Coached by the famed former striker Vladimir Bayramov, FC Arkadag rose to prominence quickly, having been established just six months prior. The team's remarkable performance throughout the season included five victories over Ahal, who also appeared formidable with four previous cup titles.

The solitary winning goal was scored by Begench Akmammedov right before halftime, solidifying Arkadag's position as one of the top clubs after only their second entry to the final.

Meanwhile, the academic achievements of Turkmenistan's youth were recently showcased at the Fifth International Student Internet Olympiad, focusing on "Electoral Systems of the World." From September 24 to November 15, 2024, this event brought together 3,172 students from 177 higher education institutions across the globe.

Two students from Turkmenistan excelled, with Selbi Ataeva from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Institute and Anastasia Cherkasova studying at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University receiving top honors. Tanryguly Geldimammedov and Malika Hojagurbanova also stood out, receiving recognition as prize winners.

This year’s Olympiad, now at its fifth edition, has seen participant numbers grow nearly 4.5 times, along with the number of universities represented tripling since its inception, demonstrating the increasing engagement and capability of Turkmenistan's educational institutions.

Turkmenistan's recent activities on both the sports field and educational stage highlight its engagement within international spheres, reflecting both the collective spirit through sports and the individual accomplishments of its youth.
