Turkish Series El Turco Debuts On Globo Tonight

The historical drama brings action and romance to Brazilian screens, while Apple TV+ premieres new comedy series The Studio.

On March 26, 2025, the Turkish series "El Turco" made its debut on TV Globo's "Cine BBB" right after the popular reality show Big Brother Brasil. This series, which has recently launched on Globoplay, features the talented Can Yaman as the lead character, Hasan Balaban, a soldier whose journey unfolds during the tumultuous times of the 17th century Ottoman Empire.

"El Turco" is not just a tale of war; it weaves together elements of action, romance, and adventure, drawing inspiration from the legendary festival of 'La Turchia,' which has been celebrated for over 300 years in Moena, Italy. The plot centers on Balaban, who, after being wounded in battle during the Ottoman campaign in Vienna, seeks refuge in the village of Moena. Here, he becomes embroiled in the struggle of local peasants against the oppression of the noble class, ultimately emerging as a legendary figure.

The series is based on the novel "El Turco: II Viyana Kuşatmasının Bilinmeyen Yönleri," written by Orhan Yeniaras and first published in 2010. This book cleverly mixes historical facts with fiction, particularly focusing on events surrounding the Second Battle of Vienna in 1683, where the Ottoman Empire faced a significant defeat in its quest for territorial expansion. While the historical backdrop is meticulously researched, the characters and their romantic entanglements are largely fictional, designed to provide depth and intrigue amidst the chaos of war.

In addition to Yaman, the series boasts a strong supporting cast, including Greta Ferro, Will Kemp, and Madalena Aragão. With six episodes available on Globoplay, viewers can immerse themselves in this captivating story that combines rich history with engaging storytelling.

Meanwhile, Apple TV+ premiered its new comedy series "O Estúdio" ("The Studio") on the same day, March 26. This series, created by Seth Rogen, who also stars as Matt Remick, dives into the chaotic world of a troubled film studio. Matt, the newly appointed head of Continental Studios, faces the daunting task of producing successful films while navigating the egos of self-absorbed artists and the greed of corporate leaders.

The show promises to deliver a blend of humor and insight into the film industry, featuring a star-studded cast that includes Emmy winner Catherine O'Hara and Kathryn Hahn, who has received Emmy nominations. The series will roll out its first two episodes this week, with new episodes released weekly until May 21, 2025. The production is the brainchild of the acclaimed Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory, and it aims to satirize the relentless demands faced by those in the entertainment business.

On Globo's schedule for March 26, viewers can also look forward to the drama "Uma Razão para Vencer" ("The Miracle Season") airing at 15:25. Directed by Sean McNamara, this film tells the inspiring story of a high school volleyball team that must rally together after the tragic death of their star player in a motorcycle accident. The coach, portrayed by Helen Hunt, dedicates herself to motivating the remaining players to overcome their grief and compete in the championship. The film features a talented cast, including Danika Yarosh and William Hurt.

For action film enthusiasts, Globo will also air "Busca Implacável 3" ("Taken 3") at 1:30 AM. Directed by Olivier Megaton, this installment follows Bryan Mills, played by Liam Neeson, as he attempts to escape his violent past and lead a peaceful family life. However, his world spirals out of control when his ex-wife is murdered, and he finds himself wrongfully accused of the crime. The gripping narrative unfolds as Mills races against time to clear his name and uncover the truth, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Forest Whitaker and Famke Janssen.

As audiences tune into these exciting premieres, both "El Turco" and "O Estúdio" represent the diverse storytelling coming from the television landscape, offering a mix of historical drama and contemporary satire. With engaging plots and talented actors, these series are poised to capture the attention of viewers across Brazil and beyond.
