Tunisia Experiences Significant Rainfall Amid Weather Warnings

The Institut National de Météorologie reports heavy rain across several governorates, urging vigilance as unstable conditions persist.

On Sunday, April 6, 2025, the Institut National de Météorologie (INM) in Tunisia reported significant rainfall across several governorates, raising concerns over unstable weather conditions that could persist in the coming days.

According to the INM, the Governorate of Sfax recorded minor amounts of rain, with Menzel Chaker and El Ghriba each receiving 1 mm, and Bir Ali receiving 2 mm. However, the rainfall totals increased notably in the Governorate of Kasserine, where Sbeitla led with 21 mm, followed by Kasserine Nord and Majel Bel Abbès, both recording 10 mm. Other areas in Kasserine reported varying amounts: Foussana and Feriana each received 3 mm, Hassi El Frid recorded 11 mm, and Kasserine Sud saw 8 mm.

In the Governorate of Sidi Bouzid, rainfall amounts varied widely, with Hichria experiencing the highest total of 22 mm, followed by Rgueb with 16 mm. Other towns in this governorate included Bir El Hfay with 9 mm, Sidi Bouzid with 8 mm, and Meknassi with just 1 mm. Menzel Bouzayane and Ouled Haffouz recorded 2 mm and 6 mm, respectively, while Souk Jdid received 11 mm.

The Governorate of Gafsa reported minimal rainfall, with Gafsa and Sned each recording 2 mm and Sidi Aïch receiving 4 mm. Notably, hail was observed in El Hichria, adding to the weather disturbances.

The INM has issued warnings about the potential for unstable weather conditions to continue in various regions, urging residents to remain vigilant. Authorities have recommended that citizens closely monitor alerts and take necessary precautions to protect both property and personal safety.

As the weather continues to fluctuate, the impact of these rainfalls could extend beyond immediate inconveniences, affecting agriculture, infrastructure, and daily life in the affected areas. The authorities are emphasizing the importance of preparedness as they anticipate further weather developments.

With these recent weather patterns, many are questioning the broader implications for Tunisia's climate and how such fluctuations might affect the agricultural sector, which is vital to the nation's economy. The INM's forecasts will be crucial in guiding farmers and residents in their planning and response strategies.

In summary, the recent rainfall reported by the INM highlights the ongoing challenges posed by unpredictable weather in Tunisia. With various regions experiencing significant precipitation, the call for vigilance is clear. As the government continues to monitor conditions, residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared for any further developments.
