On February 7, 2025, TUI Cruises celebrated a major milestone with the official delivery of its latest cruise ship, Mein Schiff Relax, at the Monfalcone shipyard, marking the beginning of a new era for the cruise line. The vessel, characterized by its state-of-the-art design and environmental technologies, stands as the first ship in the innovative 'InTUItion Class' aimed at enhancing both passenger experience and ecological sustainability.
Constructed by Fincantieri, the new ship boasts impressive specifications, featuring dual-fuel technology capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine gas oil (MGO). This step is particularly significant, as TUI aims to redefine sustainable cruising, aligning with contemporary demands for greener maritime travel.
Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, noted, "With Mein Schiff Relax, we are opening a new chapter in the direction of premium cruises," reflecting the company’s commitment to both luxury and sustainability. He added, "This delivery marks our evolution as we aim to provide superior experiences for our guests, all within the scope of environmental responsibility." The ship is the largest addition to TUI’s fleet with a gross tonnage of 161,000 and can accommodate 3,984 passengers and 1,535 crew members in its 1,945 cabins.
The delivery event was attended by several prominent figures, including Italy’s Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, and Biagio Mazzotta, Chairman and CEO of Fincantieri. The occasion was celebrated with much fanfare, symbolizing the ship’s readiness for its maiden voyages.
Mein Schiff Relax is equipped with cutting-edge amenities, including 14 themed restaurants, expansive spa and wellness areas, and the cruise line's first two-deck freedom suites, catering to solo travelers and luxury seekers alike. Along with dual-fuel engines, the vessel incorporates advanced environmental technologies such as catalytic converters meeting Euro 6 standards and effective waste treatment systems. Its capacity for using future bio or e-LNG enhances its potential for sustainable operations.
The ship is set to enter service on March, embarking on voyages around the Canary Islands before relocating to Germany by 2026. Its christening ceremony is planned for April 9, 2025, held in Malaga, where TUI will celebrate with notable performances and culinary experiences across its fleet.
Anticipation surrounding the Mein Schiff Relax is palpable, as TUI Cruises gears up for its maiden voyages. Guests can expect luxury and comfort interwoven with innovative environmental practices, demonstrating TUI's dedication to both passenger satisfaction and ecological consciousness. The cruise industry is increasingly leaning toward sustainability, and TUI Cruises is positioning itself at the forefront of this movement.
With the introduction of this new vessel, TUI Cruises is not only enhancing its fleet but also setting new standards for the future of cruising—an industry increasingly under pressure to adapt to environmental concerns. Their experience with the cruise ship industry over the past decade helps TUI navigate the challenging waters of consumer expectations and regulatory requirements aimed at reducing carbon footprints.
Looking to the future, Mein Schiff Relax signifies more than just another cruise vessel; it's part of TUI Cruises’ broader strategy to innovate and evolve within the maritime industry, ensuring sustainable luxury cruising is well within reach of traveling enthusiasts.
