Trzaskowski Leads Polish Presidential Race As Mentzen Gains Momentum

With support shifting, the second-place struggle intensifies ahead of the May elections.

According to a series of recent polls, the landscape of the 2025 Polish presidential election is shaping up to be highly competitive, particularly for second place among the leading candidates. As the election approaches, many voters appear to be weighing their options carefully, making for a thrilling race heading into the upcoming vote on May 18.

At the forefront is Rafał Trzaskowski from the Koalicja Obywatelska (KO), who continues to dominate with 34% support, according to a CBOS survey released at the end of March. Trzaskowski's strong grip on the electorate is reflected in the loyalty of his supporters, where an impressive 94% express confidence in their choice of candidate. As the incumbent contender for the presidency, Trzaskowski's ability to rally his supporters could play a crucial role on election day. In a closely contested race, every percentage point counts!

Trailing behind him is Karol Nawrocki, the candidate supported by the ruling Prawa i Sprawiedliwości (PiS) party, who currently garners 23% support. Nawrocki’s backers are equally fervent, with 95% indicating they will likely stick with him through the ballot. Yet, the pressure is mounting amidst concerns that Nawrocki's support may be weakening as his campaign progresses.

In the scramble for second place, Sławomir Mentzen, representing the Konfederacja, is making significant strides, now receiving 21% of the vote. His upward momentum is reflected in his support which has grown by 2.6 percentage points over the last three weeks. With 88% of Mentzen’s supporters expressing certainty in their decision, he is certainly a candidate to watch. The question remains: can Mentzen clench enough momentum to catch Nawrocki?

As the survey uncovered, 7% of respondents are still undecided, leaving some room for candidates to sway these potential voters. In terms of outreach, Nawrocki and Mentzen appear to be positioned well, as their respective campaigns might resonate with 15% and 14% of this undecided segment, compared to Trzaskowski, who seems to attract only 10% of undecided voters.

The candidates trailing in the polls see differing levels of support—Szymon Hołownia of the Trzecia Droga holds 4%, Adrian Zandberg from the party Razem has 3%, while Magdalena Biejat, Grzegorz Braun, and Krzysztof Stanowski each linger at a mere 2%. Lastly, Marek Jakubiak holds the lowest with just 1% support.

Looking ahead to the election date set for May 18, the landscape is nothing short of dynamic. Many constituents are weighing potential candidates, and there's a definite indication that the political environment may still shift as campaign momentum changes. As polling figures show some interesting trends, it's remarkable to note how pivotal a role purity in engagement could play.

As indicated, candidates from the Koalicja Obywatelska and Prawa i Sprawiedliwości appear to have relatively stable and highly mobilized electorates, while the Konfederacja is gaining traction. In fact, a poll revealed that support for Mentzen has risen, and he is now a potential contender for the second round of voting. Around 49.5% of respondents believe he has a shot at making it, indicating a significant rise in public confidence. As the race to the presidency heats up, Trzaskowski’s supporters might be worried about Mentzen’s growing influence.

What’s intriguing is how this election reflects the diverse opinions within the electorate. Support for Trzaskowski remains solid among KO voters, with an affirmation of 93% support, while his rivals are also practicing intense efforts to draw voters away. In fact, roughly 49% of supporters from the Trzecia Droga prefer Trzaskowski, highlighting his broad appeal even amidst other potential candidates vying for attention.

The deadline for candidate registrations is quickly approaching, as they must be finalized by April 4, 2025. Thus, the campaign strategies will need to be calibrated actively in these last few weeks to secure a favorable position by election day.

By the looks of current data, each candidate's positioning can bring about varied outcomes as the electorate gears up for the major event of 2025. The next few weeks will be crucial for all players involved, particularly Sławomir Mentzen and the dynamics with Karol Nawrocki, as their ongoing rivalry unfolds and influences the outcome for the presidency.

Overall, the Polish presidential election is already shaping up to be a hotly contested affair, with various trends emerging among voters. With the powerful influence of campaigning strategies and evolving public perceptions, many will be keeping a close watch over the next steps leading to May 18.
