Truck Fire Causes Major Traffic Disruptions On Kyushu Expressway

Multiple incidents lead to road closures and traffic delays across expressway routes.

A truck fire on the Kyushu Expressway on January 28th has led to significant traffic disruptions, including the temporary closure of key access points for safety reasons.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM when the driver reported the truck malfunctioning to the emergency hotline #9910. Shortly after, the vehicle caught fire, causing authorities to close the expressway from Yahata Interchange (IC) to Kitakyushu Junction (JCT), effectively halting northbound traffic.

Emergency services were quick to respond, yet as of 12:30 AM on the following day, there were no reported injuries related to the fire. According to local news, the truck’s driver informed emergency responders about the situation, indicating it had broken down before the fire erupted.

Simultaneously, another traffic incident occurred at Chikujo IC on the Higashi Kyushu Expressway. At approximately 3:41 PM, the northbound entrance was closed due to another accident, but operations were restored by 5:38 PM, alleviating the congestion caused earlier.

Authorities remind drivers to remain vigilant on road conditions, particularly during the winter season. Considerations such as weather impacts can exacerbate vehicle breakdowns, underscoring the necessity of routine vehicle checks and preparedness.

To navigate potential traffic disruptions effectively, motorists are encouraged to utilize multiple channels for traffic updates. Services like NEXCO's customer center are readily available, offering real-time information to improve travel safety. Monitoring social media channels and dedicated highway radio frequencies also play pivotal roles in staying informed.

These incidents highlight the importance of rapid reporting and response to roadside emergencies. Traffic authorities are continuously evaluating the situation for public safety, ensuring roads are safe for travel.
