Triple H Reveals Origins Of The Rock’s People’s Elbow

The Undertaker shares thoughts on wrestling icons and future WrestleMania in UK

In a recent revelation that has fans buzzing, Triple H shared the origins of one of wrestling's most iconic moves, The Rock's People’s Elbow. During an appearance on the podcast High Performer, Triple H recounted how the over-the-top maneuver was initially a playful attempt to make The Undertaker laugh. “The Rock does the People’s Elbow,” Triple H began, noting its silliness. “He runs twice, hits the ropes, drops the worst looking elbow on you. It’s not a knock on it. It started as a joke. It started as a place for us on live events and him trying to make The Undertaker laugh and break character.”

According to Triple H, the move began during a live event where The Rock, in a light-hearted moment, executed the elbow drop in an effort to entertain his peers. “We were all doing dumb stuff, and he did it one night, and it looked really cool, as silly as it was,” he explained. The move took on a life of its own after someone dared The Rock to perform it on television. The crowd's enthusiastic reaction to the spoof led to its adoption as one of The Rock's signature moves.

As The Rock prepares for his role in this year’s Road to WrestleMania, he has been instrumental in facilitating John Cena’s heel turn on Cody Rhodes, further solidifying his status as a pivotal figure in WWE history.

Meanwhile, The Undertaker, a legendary figure in professional wrestling, recently shared his thoughts on who he believes deserves a spot on the pro wrestling Mount Rushmore. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he named four icons: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, and Ric Flair. While acknowledging the impressive careers of current stars like John Cena and Roman Reigns, The Undertaker emphasized the historical significance of his chosen four.

“You look at time periods and era for Cena then you think about the incredible run that Roman had,” he stated. “To be champion for that long, that’s a big testament to his dedication and the confidence that the company has.” However, he firmly believes that the impact of Austin, Hogan, Flair, and Andre on the industry is unparalleled. “Just when you think of those four, their impact that they’ve had on the industry... you’ve got to be on Rushmore for that.”

In addition to discussing his Mount Rushmore choices, The Undertaker expressed his desire to see WrestleMania hosted in the United Kingdom. He remarked, “I think you guys [The United Kingdom] have more than earned it, and obviously you have the facilities and the capacity to do it. I’m just putting it out there.” This statement comes as WWE continues to expand its global reach, making the possibility of a UK WrestleMania an exciting prospect for fans across the pond.

Reflecting on his own career, The Undertaker opened up about life after retirement, which he announced during Survivor Series 2020. In a candid discussion, he described the adjustment process following his final in-ring competition. “It’s been a process that I had to figure out,” he admitted. “At the end of my career, I was only doing a handful of events anyway, but there was never that 'it's over' kind of feel to it.”

He described how he filled the void left by retirement through various projects, including his one-man show, signing events, and starting a podcast. “I started doing the one dead man show and a few signings here and there and doing some different things,” he shared. “A lot of days, I'm very content with where I'm at and love being able to spend time with my family, and then there's that other part of me that... I think will be there forever that’s saying it's time to go, right?”

Despite his retirement, The Undertaker still feels a strong connection to the wrestling world, especially when he finds himself in arenas and stadiums. “It’s just that thing in me that says it’s time to start getting ready for those big shows,” he noted. As he considers his future, he hinted at potentially taking on more production roles behind the camera, suggesting that his contributions to wrestling may not be finished just yet.

As the wrestling world gears up for WrestleMania 41, the excitement surrounding The Rock’s involvement and The Undertaker’s reflections on his legacy continue to capture the attention of fans. The upcoming event promises to be a spectacle, with both legends playing pivotal roles in shaping the narrative of professional wrestling today.

With the backdrop of these revelations, the wrestling community eagerly anticipates what’s next for these iconic figures. Will The Rock further solidify his legacy, and could The Undertaker’s dreams of a UK WrestleMania come to fruition? Only time will tell as the Road to WrestleMania unfolds.
