Triada MTB Avrig 2025 Kicks Off Mountain Biking Season

Record participation expected as new trails and events attract riders from all over.

Mountain biking enthusiasts in Romania are gearing up for an exciting weekend as the Triada MTB Avrig competition kicks off the national mountain biking season on April 12 and 13, 2025. This event is widely regarded as one of the most important competitions in the country, attracting both professional and amateur riders alike.

This year, the Triada MTB Avrig promises to deliver a thrilling experience with new segments on the courses that are just as intense and appealing as those from previous editions. According to the organizers, "With a resounding reputation in the national mountain bike calendar, Triada MTB ranks among the top competitions in the country, thanks to the trails provided, the quality of organization for each edition, and the sponsors and partners who make it possible to hold these competitions every season." Registrations for the event began on January 15, exclusively online, and it is anticipated that the number of participants will approach 1,000 across all categories.

In a notable change from previous years, the schedule for this year’s competition has been reversed. Saturday, April 12, will feature races tailored for various skill levels, including the Black Course - Geiger (68 km), Red Course - Tiemme (30 km), Blue Course - Urgo, and Yellow Course - GLS (18 km). Additionally, there will be competitions specifically for eMTB enthusiasts and a Family competition that allows a child to race alongside a parent.

The Triada MTB Avrig also hosts the first stage of the Romanian XCM (Cross Country Marathon) Cup, marking a significant milestone as it is now included in the calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI), which is expected to attract participants from outside Romania.

Sunday, April 13, will be dedicated to competitions for children aged 5 to 14, regardless of whether they are registered with the Romanian Cycling Federation. Local participants from Avrig will benefit from a waiver on the registration fee. The children’s events will take place on a circuit set up in the center of Avrig and the gardens of the Brukenthal Palace, with over 200 young riders expected to participate. Regardless of their final standings, all young competitors will receive prizes from sponsors.

This season, the organizers of the Triada MTB aim to elevate mountain biking in Romania to new heights, with events that are becoming increasingly recognized on an international scale, putting the country on the map as a destination for mountain biking enthusiasts worldwide. The Triada calendar will also feature two additional competitions: the WES UCI E-MTB Cross-Country World Cup Cheile Grădiștei on June 14-15, 2025, which will be the first round of the eMTB World Cup held in Romania, and the Triada MTB Cheile Grădiștei on June 28-29, 2025, which will include a stage of the European Olympic Cross Country Cup (XCO) and the 18th edition of the Geiger MTB Challenge. Additionally, the Triada eMTB Xperience will take place from September 12-14, 2025, a three-day event dedicated to electric bike enthusiasts.
