London transport users should brace for disruptions across multiple services this weekend, February 1-2, 2025. Transport for London (TfL) is advising passengers to check their routes before setting out, particularly with events like the Six Nations match and the Chinese New Year parade taking place, which could affect travel even more.
The Hammersmith & City line will see limited operations, with the mainline functioning normally except for part-closures between Plaistow and Barking. Passengers on the London Overground, unfortunately, will face more significant disruptions, with several cancellations set to take place.
The Elizabeth line is scheduled to run fewer trains, with substantial changes detailed below. Fortunately, there are no planned interruptions expected on the Cable Car or River Bus services. Buses will still run; nonetheless, TfL warns they may be rerouted, delayed, or stop short of their expected destinations.
TfL has encouraged customers to utilize the TfL Go app or the TfL website to pre-plan their journeys and stay updated on any changes. According to their report, customers hoping to travel from Heathrow Terminal 5 should note the last train will terminate at Ealing Broadway at 12:07 am on Saturday, February 1, due to HS2 line construction work.
On Sunday, February 2, the disruptions continue as passengers will not be able to find trains running between Paddington and Ealing until 7:45 am. A limited service will also operate throughout the day between Paddington and Heathrow/Maidenhead stations. There will be no trains operating between Stratford and Shenfield on both days to facilitate maintenance work from Network Rail. Replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford, alongside services from Newbury Park to Shenfield via Chadwell Heath, providing some alternative transport for those affected.
For those intending to use the Hammersmith & City line, travelling will not be possible between Plaistow and Barking from 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday. Passengers are advised to switch to the District line during this period as track work is completed.
The London Overground's Mildmay line will experience no train services between Gospel Oak and Stratford throughout both days due to Network Rail's maintenance work. Despite these closures, the Liberty line is no exception; it will not function between Romford and Upminster across the entire weekend. The Windrush line will also not be available for travel, starting late Friday night and carrying through until the end of Sunday.
TfL cites the disruptions as being due to both TfL projects and Network Rail's necessary maintenance efforts. Riders planning to use any of these lines are urged to stay informed and explore alternate options to avoid frustration.
If you’re planning on venturing out and about this weekend, be sure to double-check railway service status. The Elizabeth Line will see several disruptions; on Saturday, February 1, for example, no service will operate between Stratford and Shenfield. Similarly, there will be no Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield on Saturday, with replacement buses planned.
Sunday will witness the same disruptions with no Greater Anglia services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield prevailing once again. Also, there's no train activity between Paddington and Ealing Broadway Stations from 12:40 am until 7:40 am on Sunday. Once the clock strikes 7:40 am, only reduced service will operate between Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 4 and Maidenhead.
Commuters relying on the Hammersmith & City line should note the line will not be operable between Plaistow and Barking during had worked hours on Sunday. Remember, the Waterloo & City line remains unavailable during the weekends.
For those using the Overground and DLR lines, the Mildmay line experiences no services between Gospel Oak and Stratford. Also, select services departing from Clapham Junction on Saturday between 9:04 pm and 10:34 pm will terminate at Willesden Junction. The 11:19 pm train will also not be running. Passengers on the Liberty line will face the same fate, with no service scheduled between Romford and Upminster through the entire weekend.
Meanwhile, there will be no trains operating on the Windrush line between stations such as Highbury & Islington and New Cross, Clapham Junction, and more. Temporary bus replacements will only be available during daylight hours, so the use of London Buses and Night Tube services are encouraged for evening travel instead. At the moment, it appears DLR train journeys remain unaffected; though, service details are subject to change throughout the weekend.
Passengers should be aware of these changes, adhere to travel advice, and keep themselves updated on all transport options available this weekend.
