Tragic Suicide Of Kerala Teen Sparks Nationwide Outrage Over Bullying

Family alleges severe bullying led to 15-year-old's death, with harrowing details of abuse surfacing posthumously.

Mihir Ahammed, the 15-year-old Kerala boy whose tragic death by suicide last month sparked outrage, endured severe bullying and humiliation at his school, according to his family. His uncle, Musthafa PC, the CEO of ID Fresh Foods, shared heart-wrenching details of his nephew’s suffering on social media, shedding light on the cruel treatment Mihir faced, which he described as unimaginable.

Mihir's untimely death occurred on January 15, when he reportedly jumped from the 26th floor of the apartment building where he lived. This devastating act came only half an hour after he returned from school, where he had been subject to relentless bullying due to his dark complexion. "Mihir was my nephew. He is no more. He was just 15. He was subject to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students," Musthafa lamented.

Musthafa’s Instagram post revealed shocking details of the abuse. He recounted how Mihir had been forcibly made to lick a toilet seat and had his head pushed down the toilet during school hours. After this dehumanizing incident, his tormentors taunted him with names like "poopyhead." Musthafa wrote, "The evidence we gathered paints a chilling picture. Mihir was beaten, verbally abused, and forced to endure unimaginable humiliation, even on his last day."

Adding to the cruelty, even after Mihir's death, images of conversations among his bullies surfaced. Reportedly, the group shared messages celebrating Mihir's passing with phrases like, "f*k ngga, he actually died." Such appalling behavior has prompted calls for justice from Musthafa, who said, "His death must not go in vain. Those responsible for this barbaric act must face the full force of the law…and systemic changes must be made to protect children from suffering as Mihir did."

Following Mihir's tragic end, his mother, Rajna PM, took to Instagram to share her grief and the family's fight for answers. She revealed how she and her husband gathered information about their son’s death through conversations with friends and schoolmates. Rajna expressed disbelief and anger toward the school, claiming they attempted to suppress the truth for fear of bad publicity. "When I approached the school with evidence… they only informed me the information had been forwarded to the police. I strongly believe they are attempting to cover up these incidents..." she stated.

The incident has garnered significant attention, prompting Kerala's Education Minister, V Sivankutty, to launch an official inquiry. The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights is also looking closely at the case to address the issue of bullying within schools. This tragic event has sparked widespread outrage and calls for systemic change within the educational institutions to prevent future incidents of this nature.

Many have expressed their shock and disgust at the actions of the students involved and the apparent failures of the school administration to protect Mihir from such brutal treatment. The national discourse has turned toward the need for comprehensive anti-bullying policies, as well as greater awareness and action against racism and discrimination within educational environments.

Musthafa concluded his plea by emphasizing the importance of collective action: "We need support from the country to fight this battle for justice and to create safe environments for all children." His call resonates with many who feel the need for reform and accountability to cultivate respectful and safe educational spaces, where incidents like Mihir's tragedy become things of the past.

This loss serves as harrowing reminder of the very real consequences of bullying. Mihir Ahammed's story is one of systemic failure, but it may also become the catalyst for change, uniting communities to advocate for the dignity and well-being of every child.
