Tragic Fire Claims Lives In Sharjah High-Rise Tower

Five fatalities and 19 injuries reported as residents begin recovery after devastating blaze

A devastating fire broke out on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in a 52-storey residential tower in Sharjah, affecting over 1,500 residents and resulting in five fatalities and 19 injuries, according to Sharjah Police.

The fire erupted at approximately 11:31 AM, when emergency services received a call reporting flames coming from an upper-floor apartment. The swift response from Sharjah Police, Civil Defence, and National Ambulance ensured a rapid evacuation of the building, but sadly, lives were lost and many residents were injured.

The tower, which housed a diverse mix of families and professionals from various nationalities, became a scene of chaos as residents scrambled for safety. Tragically, four of the deceased reportedly fell to their deaths while attempting to escape the flames, and a Pakistani man in his forties died of cardiac arrest, believed to be triggered by the shock of the incident.

Brigadier General Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al-Naour, Director General of Operations and Security Support, expressed his condolences, stating, "We deeply regret the loss of life and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims. Our priority has been the safety of residents, and we will continue to support the community as they recover from this tragedy." He praised the effective coordination among emergency teams, which led to the safe evacuation of hundreds of residents.

In the aftermath of the fire, many displaced residents were allowed back into the building while those whose apartments were destroyed have reportedly been offered other accommodations within the same tower. The Emirates Red Crescent is also providing essential support, including shelter and food, to those affected as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.

As investigations continue, Sharjah Police's forensic teams are conducting thorough inspections of the site to determine the cause of the fire. Colonel Dr. Al-Naour confirmed that a criminal laboratory team is actively working to identify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The building, located opposite Sahara Centre, is one of the tallest in the emirate and has been home to a vibrant community. The tragic event has left many residents in shock, grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.

Authorities have cordoned off the area to facilitate ongoing investigations and ensure the safety of all residents. Access to floors above the 30th level remains restricted as teams carry out their work.

As the community begins to recover, the collaborative efforts among various agencies highlight a commitment to public safety and efficient crisis management. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to minimize casualties and ensure that affected residents received immediate assistance.

In light of this incident, officials are emphasizing the importance of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings to prevent future tragedies. The community is coming together to support one another, and many are expressing gratitude for the quick actions of emergency services that saved numerous lives.

As investigations unfold, residents are hopeful for answers that will shed light on the cause of this devastating fire. The focus now shifts to recovery and rebuilding, as the community stands resilient in the face of adversity.
