The first incident occurred at Phan Thiết beach, where two young men, Nguyễn Xuân Lộc, 20, and Trương Quang Trung, 25, found themselves caught in perilous conditions. Reports from the authorities stated the two were part of a group swimming at the beach located in khu phố 7, Bình Hưng ward. While Lộc was rescued and is currently recovering, efforts to locate Trung were underway. The command of the provincial Border Guard had dispatched four officers and local fishermen's boats to aid the search operation. The authorities also urged beach officials to implement more stringent safety warnings to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Just two days prior, another tragedy unfolded on the Tiền River in Bến Tre province. A group of four friends had gathered for leisure activities, casually swimming and picking water lilies at bến đò Cây Dương. Unexpectedly, strong currents pulled them toward an abandoned fish pond's drainage system, leading to their dire situation. It was reported at 3:30 PM on February 3, 2025, when Lê Minh Hưng, one of the friends, realized something was tragically wrong.
Despite continuous efforts to save his friends, Hưng was unable to reach them. He managed to swim ashore and seek help. Local rescue personnel were soon called to action. The police and local residents collaborated, using boats and equipment to navigate the challenging waters.
After extensive search operations, the bodies of three victims, identified as Đ.H.H., 21; M.V.P.Q, 20; and T.H.Đ, 20, were discovered approximately 50 meters from where they went missing. "We are extremely sorry for the loss of life and will increase rescue efforts and safety measures going forward," stated local authorities, emphasizing the need for community awareness about water safety.
Authorities faced difficulties during the rescue efforts due to high water levels and strong suction currents, underscoring the hazards of both beach and river swimming. Rescue operations included two tugboats and the coordination of numerous emergency response units, who worked tirelessly to recover the bodies and provide support to the bereaved families. On February 4, 2025, at about 1:47 PM, the river officials successfully recovered all three bodies, completing the grim task with respect and care.
The immediate responses from both incidents highlight the pressing need for water safety awareness campaigns aimed at both locals and visitors to popular tourist destinations. These tragedies serve as reminders of how quickly fun can turn to disaster, particularly in areas where natural currents pose threats.
