Tragedy Strikes Marília With Death Of Pilot And Son

Bento Imamura, 7, succumbs to injuries after accident that killed his father Eduardo Imamura

In a heartbreaking tragedy, Marília, Brazil, mourns the loss of seven-year-old Bento Torres Imamura, who passed away on April 8, 2025, after a devastating accident that also claimed the life of his father, Eduardo Imamura, a 35-year-old Formula 1600 pilot. The accident occurred on April 5, 2025, on the Rodovia Transbrasiliana (BR-153), where the family was traveling in a pickup truck.

The incident took place at kilometer 218 of the highway when Eduardo's Amarok pickup truck collided head-on with a truck. Eduardo died on the scene, while Bento was rushed to the Hospital das Clínicas in Marília, where he fought for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries. The news of his passing was shared on Eduardo's social media accounts, describing how Bento "fought bravely these last days, but now rests in the arms of God, alongside his beloved father, Eduardo. May they find eternal peace together."

Eduardo Imamura was not only a talented pilot but also a beloved businessman. He began his motorsport career in 2018 and became the first driver from Marília to win a race at the prestigious Interlagos Racetrack. His passion for racing was evident, and he joined the 'San Race' team, where he achieved numerous titles in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The team expressed their condolences on social media, stating, "We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our strength and solidarity to the family, friends, and all who knew Edu."

In addition to Bento, two other passengers were in the vehicle during the crash, including Aline, Eduardo's wife and Bento's mother. Fortunately, Aline sustained only minor injuries. The family was reportedly traveling together when the tragic accident occurred. A camera installed in the truck captured the collision, showing the pickup truck veering into the opposing lane before impact.

The local community has rallied around the Imamura family during this difficult time, with many expressing their grief and support through social media and personal messages. João Guimarães, a fellow Formula 1600 pilot, shared his sorrow, saying, "The motorsport community has lost not just a talented driver but a dear friend. I had the privilege of knowing him and calling him a friend. His absence will be deeply felt in Interlagos and everywhere his passion for motorsport shone bright."

The funeral for Bento will take place at 12 PM, followed by burial at 5 PM on the same day in Marília. Surely they are together again. There is much pain and sadness over the departure of our loved ones," a family member stated.
