Traffic congestion remains a pressing issue across various regions in Germany, particularly in Havelland, Remscheid, and Solingen, as multiple construction sites and accidents create bottlenecks. This situation calls for drivers to stay informed about traffic conditions in a bid to navigate safely and efficiently.
According to reports from the MAZ Stau-Melder and RGA Stau-Melder on March 23, 2025, it has been observed that traffic is noticeably slower than usual in many routes. These delays are reported in cities including Falkensee, Nauen, and Rathenow in Havelland, as well as in Remscheid, Wermelskirchen, and the surrounding areas like Solingen and Wuppertal.
The MAZ Stau-Melder provides vital data sourced from TomTom, a navigation service that utilizes GPS coordinates from millions of devices. TomTom claims to access data from around 80 million mobile devices, several million official road sensors, and manual reports, all of which contribute to the accuracy of the information shared. Data refresher is conducted every five minutes to ensure drivers remain up to date.
In particular, the highways most affected include the A10, A2, A14, as well as federal roads B5, B102, and B188 in Havelland. Meanwhile, in Remscheid, major routes include the A1 and A46, along with B51, B51n, B229, B237, and important L74, L81, L101, and L418. Further complicating the situation is the fact that the A1 recorded nearly 6,500 hours of traffic congestion between Cologne and Dortmund in 2023, marking it as one of the most congested routes in the country. Similarly, the A46, connecting Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, is also recognized as one of the top congested routes in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
Specific regions experiencing heightened traffic congestion were identified across these locations. For instance, the MAZ report highlighted critical routes around 'Havelland', particularly as they relate to speeding traffic on the aforementioned highways. In the region surrounding Remscheid, drivers have also expressed concerns about the impact of consistent traffic at junctions and during peak travel hours due to construction works.
Additionally, the traffic situation in Solingen is marked by some of the major highways—the A3, A1, and A46—each notorious for congestion according to the ADAC, Germany’s automobile club. The A3, for example, was noted as the number one congestion route in NRW, suffering over 10,000 hours in traffic in 2023. Current construction works and diversions near the Solingen junction have exacerbated these issues, leaving many commuters frustrated.
The B229 route provides connections through the city and links Remscheid with nearby suburbs, while the B224 links Solingen-Mitte with Wuppertal. Additionally, L357, known as Roggenkamp, connects Gräfrath and links with the A46. If that wasn't enough, minor local roads in Solingen such as Cronenberger Straße and Katternberger Straße are also identified as troubled spots, often congested during peak hours.
In all cases, the local authorities urge drivers to exercise caution and consideration towards other road users, especially in areas experiencing serious delays. Traffic monitoring services from TomTom, along with updates from local transportation agencies, highlight the critical nature of staying informed and making wise route choices to avoid heavy congestion.
As road improvements and construction on crucial junctions proceed in Havelland, Remscheid, and Solingen, city planners and officials are hopeful that these disruptions will eventually lead to enhanced travel efficiency. Nevertheless, for now, it is essential for drivers to remain patient and adaptable in the face of these ongoing road challenges.
