Toyama University Welcomes 2423 New Students With Global Focus

The entrance ceremony highlights commitment to diversity and student safety amid new academic beginnings.

On April 8, 2025, Toyama University welcomed its new students with an entrance ceremony that featured a strong emphasis on cultural diversity and global education. A total of 2,423 students from various backgrounds, representing nine faculties and graduate schools, gathered to mark the beginning of their academic journey.

During the ceremony, President Yutaka Saito addressed the incoming class, highlighting the university's commitment to sharing diverse cultures and values. Speaking with English subtitles, he stated, "We will share the world's diverse cultures and values and strengthen global education." This message resonated with students, many of whom expressed excitement about their new environment.

Among the new students was Sakura Iketani, who represented the graduate students at the ceremony. She pledged to contribute to the advancement of culture, reflecting the university's aspirations to foster a global perspective among its students.

As part of the university's efforts to ensure student safety and well-being, the prefectural police conducted a seminar on the same day to warn students about the darker side of part-time job solicitations. This initiative aimed to inform new students about potential scams and unsafe job offers that they might encounter as they navigate their new lives.

One student from Toyama Prefecture expressed her joy at finally entering university, saying, "I am so happy to finally be enrolled!" Another international student from Libya shared her thoughts on the university's diverse atmosphere, stating, "Toyama is a place full of diversity. I love science, and after careful consideration, I thought Toyama University was the best choice for me." Meanwhile, a student from Hyogo Prefecture expressed a desire to study abroad while learning about the world, saying, "I am interested in the world, so I want to study that while also studying abroad."

The entrance ceremony not only marked the beginning of the students' academic careers but also set the tone for their future endeavors at Toyama University. With classes scheduled to begin on April 11, 2025, students are eager to dive into their studies and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.

In addition to the welcoming address and student pledges, the university's administration aims to create a supportive environment that encourages cultural exchange and personal growth. This is particularly important as the university continues to attract a diverse student body from around the globe.

The seminar conducted by the prefectural police was a timely reminder for students to stay vigilant as they embark on their university journey. With the rise of part-time job opportunities, it is essential for students to be aware of potential pitfalls and to seek guidance when necessary.

As Toyama University continues to grow and evolve, its commitment to fostering a global educational environment remains unwavering. By emphasizing the importance of cultural diversity and safety, the university is preparing its students not only for academic success but also for responsible citizenship in an increasingly interconnected world.

With the entrance ceremony concluded and classes set to begin, the excitement among the new students is palpable. They are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that await them at Toyama University, where the pursuit of knowledge and cultural understanding go hand in hand.
