Tottenham And Wolves Share Spoils After 2-2 Draw

A thrilling encounter sees Son Heung-min miss penalty as Hwang Hee-chan shines again for Wolves.

Tottenham Hotspur faced Wolverhampton Wanderers on December 30, 2023, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, resulting in a 2-2 draw. The match was part of the 2024-25 Premier League season and showcased both teams' ambitions to improve their standings.

From the outset, Wolverhampton made their mark early on, as Hwang Hee-chan opened the scoring just seven minutes after kickoff. After receiving a short pass from teammate Rayan Ait-Nouri, Hwang struck with precision, finding the bottom corner of the Tottenham goal. The home team quickly responded, leveling the match with Rodrigo Bentancur's header following Pedro Porro's well-taken corner kick just five minutes later.

Despite Tottenham's immediate equalizer, the first half was eventful, particularly for Son Heung-min, who struggled to regain his form following criticism for previous performances. Just before halftime, Son was awarded a penalty after Brennan Johnson was fouled inside the box. Unfortunately for the Korean forward, his strike was saved by Wolves' goalkeeper José Sá, who perfectly anticipated Son's attempt to place the ball in the left corner.

The match saw Tottenham take the lead shortly before the halftime whistle when Brennan Johnson netted after assists from Dejan Kulusevski, putting the score at 2-1 for the home side.

After the break, Tottenham substituted injured defender Destiny Udogie with Sergio Reguilón, who had seen limited action earlier this season. Wolves continued to press for opportunities, and their efforts paid off when they equalized through Jorgen Strand Larsen's goal, set up by Ait-Nouri’s precise through ball.

Both teams continued to trade chances but were unable to secure the win. Son, who was substituted out early in the second half, drew scrutiny due to his missed penalty and overall performance, receiving the lowest evaluation among Spurs players from Football London.

On the other hand, Huang's performance earned him praise, with stronger ratings reflecting his contributions to Wolves' attacking play. Wolverhampton remains near the relegation zone with 16 points, whereas Tottenham remains 11th with 24 points following three consecutive matches without wins.

This result keeps Tottenham under pressure to improve as the season progresses, with fixture congestion and squad management becoming increasingly important. The Premier League table may continue to shift as teams vie for positioning during the busy winter schedule.
