Top Tennis Stars Set For 2025 Mexican Open

Acapulco prepares to host thrilling matches as Alex de Minaur bows out, leaving room for new champion.

The 2025 Mexican Open is set to captivate the global tennis community with its roster of elite players and rich history, enhancing its standing as one of the premier ATP 500 tournaments. From February 24 to March 1, tennis fans can expect high-octane matches, as Acapulco prepares to welcome some of the sport's biggest stars.

This year’s tournament will feature many renowned names, including World No. 2 Alexander Zverev, World No. 4 Taylor Fritz, World No. 5 Casper Ruud, and World No. 9 Tommy Paul, forming one of the most competitive lineups to date. The average age of the competitors is just 25, making this edition particularly youthful and dynamic. Notably, the defending champion Alex de Minaur will not be participating, guaranteeing the crowning of a new champion.

Among the key players, Zverev aims to add another Mexican Open title to his name after claiming victory in 2021. Ruud seeks to improve on his previous runner-up finish last year, where he lost to de Minaur. Paul, fresh off entering the Top 10, will be vying for his first title at this event.

Italian player Flavio Cobolli and American Ben Shelton are also entered, with Shelton having recently reached the semifinals at the Australian Open and hoping to drive his ranking back within the top 10. Other noteworthy entrants include Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, Hubert Hurkacz, and Sebastian Korda, adding even more depth to the competition.

Mexican tennis will be well-represented by 17-year-old Rodrigo Pacheco, who earned his spot through impressive performances leading up to the tournament. Pacheco will aim for success on home soil, adding to the excitement for local fans.

The tournament will begin with the Qualifying Tournament held prior to the main draw, featuring fierce competition as players battle for four spots. Among the hopeful qualifiers are Mattia Bellucci, Aleksandar Kovacevic, Rinky Hijikata, and Adrian Mannarino, along with local talents Rafael de Alba and Alan Magadán.

The opening rounds of the event kick off on February 24, following the draw ceremony scheduled for February 22. Fans can look forward to highlighted first-round matchups such as Zverev against Matteo Arnaldi, Ruud versus Arthur Rinderknech, and Shelton facing Cobolli.

Match schedules indicate evening sessions from Monday to Thursday, beginning at 6:00 PM local time, leading up to the semifinals on Friday starting at 7:00 PM, and culminating with the finals on Saturday at 9:00 PM.

For those wishing to attend, tickets are available through Ticketmaster, StubHub, and the tournament’s website, as well as at the box office of Arena GNP Seguros. Prices start at $2,075 MXN for opening round tickets and $427 MXN for qualifying rounds, alongside various VIP packages available.

Matches will be broadcast live across Mexico on ESPN and can be streamed on Star+. International viewers can tune in through regional networks covering ATP events.

The Mexican Open boasts more than just thrilling matches; with a total prize pool of $2,585,410 USD, the financial incentives are substantial. The singles champion will take home $483,515, alongside generous rewards for later-round participants, making it attractive for elite players to compete.

Having started its legacy back in 1993 and relocating to Acapulco since 2000, the tournament has transformed from clay courts to hard courts, enhancing its desirability as a lead-up event for the U.S. hard-court swing. Over the years, it has seen legendary players like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Thomas Muster lift the trophy, drawing acclaim for its organization and scenic beachfront setting.

Organized by Mextenis, the event will also host complementary activities, including Kids Day, where young enthusiasts will receive coaching from professionals, and Mextenis Talks, featuring discussions highlighting tennis insights and experiences.

The 2025 Mexican Open stands poised to deliver unforgettable moments on its vibrant stage. With stars like Zverev, Ruud, and local favorite Pacheco, this year's competition is expected to engage fans, whether they are present at Arena GNP Seguros or watching from home.
