Top Seeds Shine At BNP Paribas Open 2025

Iga Swiatek and Daniil Medvedev showcase dominant performances as tournament heats up.

Indian Wells, California - The 2025 BNP Paribas Open kicked off its third round on March 9 with electrifying matches as several top-seeded players showcased their dominance, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling week of tennis.

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek demonstrated her prowess by decisively defeating Dayana Yastremska with a resounding score of 6-0, 6-2, securing her place in the fourth round of the tournament. The match, which lasted just 65 minutes, highlighted Swiatek's strong serve and agile court movement. Not only did she convert 6 out of 11 break chances, but she also managed to play through the match without facing any break points herself, underlining her command on the court.

After the match, Swiatek reflected, “For sure it was a great match. I’m happy to have kept my intensity up and closed it with confidence.” Next, she will face Czech player Karolina Muchova, who defeated Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 6-1, putting forth her own impressive performance.

Daniil Medvedev, the sixth-ranked men's player, advanced without breaking a sweat—spending just 10 minutes on the court before his opponent Alex Michelsen had to retire due to illness. Medvedev humorously remarked, “Food poisoning or something like this, these things happen,” as he prepared for his next match against Tommy Paul, who outlasted former champion Cameron Norrie with scores of 6-3, 7-5.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, currently ranked ninth worldwide, matched the intensity of his peers, overcoming Italian Matteo Berrettini 6-3, 6-3. Tsitsipas, fresh off his recent title win, said, “I’m approaching these matches with determination and willingness to just leave it all out there on the court.” His performance involved dropping only eight points on his serve and breaking Berrettini three times during the match.

Meanwhile, fans were treated to the energetic contest between young talents Mirra Andreeva and Clara Tauson. Andreeva, who recently triumphed over Tauson at the Dubai final, continues her strong run this season. Tauson, having overcome several challenges with injuries, remarked about her resurgence and focus on health as she meets Andreeva once again.

The excitement didn’t end there as the women's fourth seed, Jessica Pegula, swiftly defeated Xinyu Wang 6-2, 6-1, showcasing her recent form after claiming her first title of the year. Pegula’s upcoming match against Elina Svitolina, who beat Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-4, adds to the anticipation surrounding women's matches going forward.

Spectators filled the stadiums as not only the players but also notable personalities like Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner were seen enjoying matches, highlighting the event's allure beyond the sport itself.

With intense competition continuing, the BNP Paribas Open stands out as players vie for supremacy on the prestigious courts. Fans eagerly await the next rounds, hoping for more thrilling upsets and high-caliber performances.

Overall, March 9 marks another significant day at Indian Wells, packed with exciting matchups and showcasing the future of tennis. The draw holds promising prospects for both veteran and rising stars as they vie for titles and glory.
