Top Gift Trends For Defender Of The Fatherland Day

Men's grooming products and gadgets surge as popular choices this February 23.

With Defender of the Fatherland Day fast approaching, many Russians are gearing up for the tradition of gift-giving to honor the men in their lives. According to analysts from Wildberries, categories such as men's perfumes, deodorants, razors, and various grooming products are seeing significant sales increases as the holiday draws near.

RBC Perm reports, "Among 'gift' categories, the sales of men's perfume and cosmetics significantly increased on the eve of the holiday, with razors and shaving products also seeing high demand." Specifically, sales for razors spiked by 125% and shaving products saw an 85% increase, marking these items as favorites among local consumers.

On average, residents of Perm are spending approximately 2,800 rubles on gifts for February 23, reflecting the importance of this holiday. Besides personal care items, gadgets like wireless headphones and gaming consoles have also made the list of popular gifts.

Meanwhile, as shoppers peruse items for their loved ones, analysts at AТОL have examined price changes across the board for the most sought-after gifts. Their study included data from 97.2 million receipts and revealed extensive fluctuations in the prices of various products leading up to the holiday.

The report indicates the price of fitness trackers, for example, has soared by 26%, reaching an average cost of 1,982 rubles. Other notable increases include

  • Shower gels up by 18% (now averaging 351 rubles),

  • Bath gift sets which have increased by 15% (now averaging 812 rubles),

  • Disposable razors saw their prices rise by 11% (costing 1,231 rubles),

  • Smoking pipes are now 6% more expensive (at 409 rubles),

  • Boxer briefs have risen by 5% to 686 rubles,

  • Wallet prices increased by 1% (now about 1,146 rubles).

Not all gifts have become pricier, though. Some categories have seen positive price movements. Shaving sets have decreased by 6%, with their new average at 783 rubles, and shaving foam prices dipped by 1%, averaging 278 rubles. Gadgets also showed some relief; hard drives are now 17% cheaper, costing about 2,244 rubles, and trimmers have dropped by 6% to 1,354 rubles.

Despite these price changes, the essence of gifting remains unchanged. Sellouts and huge price drops will likely not diminish the core sentiment of the holiday. ATOL analysts summarized it perfectly: "Despite price changes, the main thing about the gift is attention and care, and the right present will make this holiday particularly pleasant."

This season of giving embodies the acknowledgment of the sacrifices and contributions of men across Russia, combining practicality with thoughtful sentimentality. Whether it’s through fragrance, grooming essentials, or tech innovations, each gift reflects appreciation and love during this special holiday.
