Tommy Fleetwood Leads Travelers Championship Backed By Wife Manager

Fleetwood holds a three-shot lead with family support and strong management as he chases his first PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship

As the final round of the Travelers Championship unfolds on Sunday, June 23, 2025, Tommy Fleetwood stands poised at the summit of the leaderboard with a commanding 16-under-par. The 34-year-old English golfer, who has yet to clinch a PGA Tour victory despite an impressive 41 top-10 finishes, delivered a flawless bogey-free 63 in the third round on Saturday. His round featured an electrifying eagle on the 13th hole and five birdies, propelling him to a three-shot lead at the TPC River Highlands course.

Fleetwood’s surge comes amid stumbles by top contenders like World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas, opening the door for the Englishman to potentially capture his first PGA Tour title. But beyond the numbers and leaderboard drama, Fleetwood’s story is deeply intertwined with the unwavering support and savvy management of his wife, Clare Fleetwood.

Married since 2017, Clare Craig Fleetwood is not only Tommy’s life partner but also his longtime manager and agent. Their relationship, marked by a notable 23-year age gap, blossomed after Clare took over his management in 2015. The couple first met through Tommy’s brother Joe, who also works at Hambric Sports Management, where Clare serves as vice president for European operations. Clare initially hesitated to manage Tommy, but after evaluating other proposals, she realized she was the right person for the job. “As we ... sat there listening to different proposals, I'm like, 'I can do this,'” Clare shared on the Performance People podcast. “But I just for some reason at the beginning thought I couldn't and I shouldn't. ... Then we gave it six months, and it worked, so we carried on.”

Tommy credits Clare with providing a crucial grounding influence. “She’s very clever. ... She judges situations better than you do when you’re playing,” he told Performance People. “That calming side, that reality check ... that happiness side of things and she’s very clever. She judges situations better than you do when you’re playing all the time and you’re so single-minded on what you do and that you don’t look outside the box.”

Their partnership extends beyond the golf course into family life. The Fleetwoods share a son, Franklin, born in 2017, and Clare has two sons, Oscar and Mo, from a previous relationship. Tommy openly expressed how much it means to him to have his family by his side at tournaments. “They’re great. My biggest supporters completely. They love golf. They absolutely love it. It is always great having them out,” he told reporters during a press conference on Saturday. “I’m sort of one of the guys that probably, living where I live, does the most amount of travel and probably spends the most amount of time away from my family. So I do really love the weeks when they are out here.”

The Travelers Championship, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, offers amenities like babysitting, children’s activities, and social events such as Family Night Wiffle Ball, creating an ideal environment for tour families. This vibe clearly resonates with Fleetwood, who cherishes the rare moments when his family can join him on the road.

Tommy and Clare’s wedding in December 2017 was a unique affair held on a beach in the Bahamas, a location Clare found for them after playing in the Hero World Challenge. Fleetwood remarked on their unconventional choice, saying, “I like doing things a little bit backward. It’s nice to be different.” The couple then returned to England to celebrate a successful and eventful year together.

Despite occasional curiosity about their 23-year age difference, both Clare and Tommy have addressed it candidly. Clare explained on the Performance People podcast that the age gap was more of a concern initially due to external perceptions within the industry, but it never affected their relationship. Tommy echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the trust he places in Clare as both his agent and wife. “At the end of the day there’s nobody that I trust more or that I’m going to trust more to make the best decisions for us really. She’s making decisions for the family as well as I guess me as an individual,” he said.

Clare’s background extends beyond sports management. She was a trustee for the Richard Burns Foundation, a charity honoring her close friend and British rally driver Richard Burns, who passed away in 2005 from complications of a brain tumor. Clare met Burns in 1997 and traveled with him as his assistant throughout his World Rally Championship career, handling logistics, PR, and sponsorship commitments.

As Tommy Fleetwood approaches what could be a career-defining victory at the Travelers Championship, the story of his journey is inseparable from the steadfast partnership with Clare. Their combined dedication—her sharp management and his relentless pursuit on the course—paints a compelling picture of teamwork and love fueling sporting ambition.

With just one round remaining, Fleetwood’s three-shot lead and flawless performance on Saturday have set the stage for a potentially historic breakthrough. Whether he can finally secure that elusive PGA Tour win remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: behind every shot, every putt, and every moment on the fairway stands a powerful support system in Clare and their family.
